Summary
Functioning as a member of the health care team, and Patient Family Support Services team, the Music Therapist ? Board Certified (MT-BC) is responsible for supporting adults within oncology at the Rogel Cancer Center setting by developing, coordinating, and conducting comprehensive therapeutic music interventions and programs in the Music therapy scope of practice. The MT-BC possesses advanced clinical training to provide evidence based music therapy interventions for patients and families. This position will collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to provide comprehensive care to Oncology patients, as well as to support programs where music would be an integral part of the service delivery for patient care. Additional responsibilities include program development, end of life and bereavement support, legacy interventions , special event coordination for personas with cancer and their families. They will possess a Bachelor degree, certification and credentialing from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
Responsibilities*
Create and implement Music Therapy interventions for patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings at the Rogel Cancer Center
Plan, implement, evaluate and modify patient treatment programs and activities.
Provide opportunities for and facilitate a variety of group and individual Music Therapy interventions
Provide Music Therapy interventions, referrals, and collaboration as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care that is family-centered, developmentally appropriate, and psychosocially sound
Assess and prioritize those interventions with patients as well as caregivers of the patient
Assess and prioritize child/family needs for music therapy intervention
Support patients and family members in coping with the stresses associated with the health care experience
Provide opportunities for and facilitate a variety of group and individual play recreation, and activities which promote development, self-expression, and mastery
Evaluate emotional, social, mental and physical condition of referred patients utilizing therapeutic interventions and assessments
Support family-centered care through communication and involvement of parents and other family members
Provide education regarding illness/condition, treatment, and coping techniques to patients, family members, and the larger community as appropriate
Function and consult Plan, implement and document treatment plans/outcomes for patients
Maintain equipment and supplies
Plan and implement services e.g. special events, patient/family workshops; Interface with donors, community groups and others vital to the continued growth of supports through Patient and Family Support Services
Provide education and in-service training regarding Music Therapy Services to patients, families, medical staff and students and staff members from other disciplines
Participate in professional development to enhance job performance and contribute to the accomplishment of Patient and Family Support Services and the Rogel Cancer Centers, missions and goals.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy; Credentialing as a Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists; Membership in the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA); Demonstrated success working within a multidisciplinary team model; experience in the field preferred.
Desired Qualifications*
Ability to appropriately assess situations with patients and families as they relate to specific needs for Music Therapy intervention. Ability to appropriately refer patients and families to other Patient and Family Support Services as well as other care providers (Social Work, Clergy, etc.) as needed. Ability to function well in multidisciplinary team settings.
