We are seeking applications, on an ongoing basis, for Music Appreciationadjunct instructors and substitutes at Renton Technical College (RTC). The Dean of General Education reviews applications as needed to fill openings. Please see Terms of Employment for further compensation details.This position will remain open until filled.

RTC regularly offers just one non-performance class: MUSC&105 Music Appreciation. We use open educational resource (OER) materials in the class, which enrolls a diverse group of students. We are particularly interested in applicants who are available for in-person instruction.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as needs arise within each department. Deans will evaluate applications periodically and contact candidates as adjunct positions become available. Note that applications may be reviewed at any time while this posting remains active.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for underrepresented student populations.

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Effectively teach the adopted curricula for music appreciation.

  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small group and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.

  • Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.

  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.

  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports, including annual assessment reports on assigned general education student learning outcomes.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.

  • Master's degree in music, music education, or similar field with graduate credits in music.

  • Ability to design in-person and online learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.

  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.

  • Speaker of a language in addition to English is preferred- preference for top spoken languages in the RTC service area (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).

Terms of Employment

In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,058 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,592 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.

Degree Stipend:

Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate quarterly.

The person hired isrequiredtoprovideauthorization for employment in the United States. All offers of employment are contingent to background checks, including employment andrequireddegree/credential verification. Information from the background check will not necessarilyprecludeemployment but will be considered indeterminingthe applicant's suitability and competence to perform successfully in the position.Finalists are required to complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure form as required under RCW 288.112.080.Post offer, pre-employment criminal background checks are also required.
