The Sioux City Public Museum is seeking an energetic, motivated Development Coordinator to assist the Museum Director in all aspects of public relations and marketing for the Museum, its exhibitions, and its programs.

This position will oversee the daily management of donor membership activities, coordinate the design, creation, and production of all printed marketing such as brochures, flyers, press releases, newsletters, and annual reports. The qualified candidate will provide content creation and maintain the Museum's website and social media pages to increase the Museums presence within the community. The Development Coordinator will also supervise Museum Store desk employees and be responsible for assisting with the purchasing of merchandise, inventory, marketing, and financial management of the Museum Store.

The desired candidate must be self-motivated, have excellent organizational and management skills, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and exhibit a keen attention to detail.

This is a permanent part-time position (20 hours per week); primarily Tuesday through Friday with a flexible work schedule; Employee must be able to work one weekend every 9 weeks.

Duties

Under the general direction of the Museum Director, performs responsible work in the development of the Sioux City Public Museum financial support and coordination of all fund-raising activities, and the planning and implementing of all public relations duties and marketing for the Museum, its exhibitions, and programs.

  • Manages daily development activities.

  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates development staff.

  • Develops strategic planning for development goals, including appropriate time tables, objectives, budgets, etc.

  • Identifies and researches funding opportunities on local, regional and national levels.

  • Makes solicitations and prepares written proposals for support.

  • Develops and implements a planned giving program for the Museum.

  • Develops and implements an annual fund for the Museum.

  • Works with Museum staff to develop potential grant opportunities and research, prepares and submits grant applications.

  • Develops campaigns for the solicitation of corporate and individual memberships.

  • Develops and maintains a network of local support for short- and long-term needs.

  • Recruits, motivates, and trains volunteers to aid in fund-raising pursuits.

  • Monitors and documents fund-raising activities by receiving and recording contributions/payments, acknowledging donor support, and following-up with requisite reporting requirements.

  • Museum Development Coordinator reports on a regular basis to the Sioux City Museum and Historical Association, various support committees, and the Museum Director.

  • Communicates ideas to printer for completion of Museum publications.

  • Responsible for graphic design of publications.

  • Designs, writes, edits and prepares for printing marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, catalogs, public address announcements, quarterly materials, and videos.

  • Assists in coordinating Museum events.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds.

  • Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

Qualifications

Cognitive Skills and Abilities: Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and complete assignments with minimal supervision required. Apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.

Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of fund development practices and techniques, and fund-raising activities; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and public relations; good organizational, motivational and interpersonal skills.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to exercise resourcefulness in meeting and resolving problems; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with Museum patrons, business community, volunteers, other employees and the public. Ability to develop and regulate budges. Requires the ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively with fellow employees; read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers;

Physical Demands, Skills and Abilities: The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects, ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; this involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue, ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing, ability to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with your body, arms, and/or legs. Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a general inside office environment with appropriate heating and cooling and is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards other than those normally associated with general public contact.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

The position requires considerable experience in development, fund-raising activities, marketing, or public relations; graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, marketing, public relations, or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.

Possession of a valid driver's license.
