Class Summary

Multiple Seasonal Positions

The season is May through September

Working up to 32-40 hours per week; flexible with hours.

Typically, all positions will begin being paid at the beginning of pay range listed above.

Incumbents are responsible for a variety of semi-skilled labor tasks related to an assigned division. Responsibilities may include routine physical labor and/or on-the-job instruction.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory and management staff in assigned.

Typical Class Essential Duties

1.Manual labor tasks such as cultivating and fertilizing flowers, grass, and shrubs; basic building maintenance; shoveling snow, mowing and basic irrigation; clearing and maintaining landfill ditches; storm water maintenance; repairing and maintaining roadways; and working with crews performing basic construction and maintenance repairs.

2.May operate dump trucks with snow plows, front end loaders, backhoes, boom trucks, forklifts, light sanitation vehicles, tractors, mowers, jackhammers and a variety of other related tools, equipment and vehicles as needed.

3.Basic inspection, repair and maintenance of equipment.

4.May assist with installing street signs, barriers, and painting street markings.

5.May receive cash, count cash and operate a cash register; may complete daily operational reports.

6.Light cleaning, litter pickup and/or housekeeping activities.

7.May assist with work on special projects.

8.Provides general customer service and communicates with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information about the facility or event.

9.Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.



  1. Follows all City safety procedures. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately to supervisor.

  2. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


Knowledge (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge of:

  • Customer service principles.

  • Standard safety practices and procedures.

  • Semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks.

  • Proper use of basic tools and equipment.

Abilities(position requirements at entry):

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions.

  • Access and maneuver difficult terrain while carrying a variety of hand tools.

  • Work in holes, dig trenches, climb ladders and clean-up work sites in a neat and orderly fashion.

  • Safely use a number of hand tools; work around pesticides and in landscapes.

  • Communicate effectively verbally.

  • Follow written and verbal instructions and direction.

  • Operate, service, check and load equipment.

Skills (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

  • Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable and tactful manner with staff and general public.

  • Manual labor.

Training, Experience & Certifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Minimum of one year of experience performing manual labor in construction, energy or manufacturing industry, building maintenance, or grounds maintenance utilizing light hand or power tools preferred.

LICENSING and CERTIFICATIONS:

Licensing Requirements:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, a valid Wyoming Class B Commercial Driver's License with applicable endorsements per assigned division is preferred.

Driving records are required for all new employees regardless of the position's driving requirements. If the employee has not held a Wyoming driver's license for the last three years, the employee must provide at their own initiation and expense a driving record from their previous state(s) of residence.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

City of Casper employees that perform safety sensitive tasks are subject to pre-employment and/or random drug testing. These tasks include, but may not be limited to:

  • Emergency response/rescue

  • Handling or working with hazardous materials, including chemicals as well as solid and liquid waste

  • Operating or maintaining water and wastewater systems

  • Maintaining City computer and data systems including networks, servers, communication systems, etc.

  • Driving for the City of Casper, whether essential or non-essential

  • Operating power-driven machinery or equipment

  • Handling confidential information, including personnel, health, financial, or attorney-client information

  • Working with or around children

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Can include long periods of sitting or long periods of standing.

Medium work: Exerting up to 90 pounds of force using jackhammers occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Incumbents frequently drive, operate equipment, or work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Frequent work on or around moving motorized equipment is also expected. Employees in this class are often subjected to unsanitary environments, liquid and solid waste, fumes/dusts, odors, chemicals, and excessive noise. May be subject to repetitive motion and vibration when operating tools and machinery. Work requires the use of personal protective equipment including hard hats, eye protection, hearing protectors, gloves, safety vests, and safety shoes. OSHA mandated preventative vaccinations and periodic examinations for work exposures are provided.
