ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Water Services Department is seeking a Municipal Security Guard. This position patrols City of Phoenix Water Department plants, remote sites, buildings, building grounds, and parking lots to observe unusual behavior and to prevent and report criminal activity as well as safety concerns.

Responsibilities include:

  • Significant vehicle and foot patrol while observing the cities water facilities and remote sites;

  • Monitoring CCTV video to observe unusual behavior and to prevent criminal activity;

  • Preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas;

  • Remaining at a fixed post to observe activities;

  • Completing accurate and detailed log entries and incident reports;

  • Enforcing correction of infractions through verbal warning and progressive measures;

  • Providing outstanding customer service to our internal and external customers;

  • Assessing problem situations and exercising tact and judgment in bringing about resolution;

  • Access control including review of contractor background reports and issuing badge credentials.

After hours duty phone is assigned on a rotating basis providing telephone support and response.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to help customers who are dealing with very difficult and emotional situations.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to write reports of daily activity and detailed Incident reports.

  • Ability to operate CCTV.

SALARY

Pay Range: $20.02 - $32.62 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.02 - $26.83 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

  • Demonstrated ability to do or learn to do security, as shown by prior training and experience.

  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Working conditions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.

  • Must wear a uniform.

  • Must be neat and professional in appearance and demeanor.

  • Must have adequate vision, hearing, and physical stamina.

  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings will be required.

  • Must operate a city vehicle and perform foot patrol outdoors over irregular terrain in a variety of weather conditions typical of the extreme desert environment.

  • Continuous training and recurrent training is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Spanish proficiency is desired though not required.

  • First Aid/AED training.

Experience in/with the following:

  • Working with access control systems that include creating access control picture badges and adding and removing access groups and doors.

  • Utilizing a computer in a Microsoft Windows environment to include Outlook Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Patrolling City of Phoenix.

  • Helping customers in person, over the phone and via email.

  • Working in a government building as a security officer.

  • Monitoring Closed Circuit Television cameras.

  • Working in water or other industrial plant.

  • Responding to emergency situations.

  • Working alongside law enforcement.
