What are we looking for in candidates?

Along with your solid technical skills, candidates should demonstrate problem-solving and analytical

abilities, good communication and collaboration skills, a curiosity for how and why things work as they

do, and a passion for audio, video, movies, music, or game technology. You have a desire to bring in new

ideas and are open to learning from others and working in a team.

You may succeed in this role if you are a PhD candidate in neuroscience, computer science, or related

fields, and you actively develop immersive virtual worlds as a tool to explore perception and how our

brains interface with technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with our team to design immersive virtual environments that deliver

complete audiovisual experiences, possibly incorporating other senses such as haptics.

  • Implement experiments in the fields of computational neuroscience, perception science and

multimodal AI to understand human interactions in virtual environments.

  • Collect and analyze multimodal data using state-of-the-art tools and techniques including eye

tracking, EEG and biometric sensors.

  • Develop and implement algorithms and techniques for signal processing and analysis of human

experiential data.

  • Incorporate subjective data from human perception experiments into machine learning models

to improve their scope, accuracy, and performance.

  • Participate in regular team meetings and present your findings to teams across Dolby.

  • Contribute to the development of research papers, patents, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a PhD degree in neuroscience, computer science, electrical engineering,

cognitive science, biomedical engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong development skills in realtime gaming/simulation engines such as Unreal and experience

working with audio and visual elements of virtual environments.

  • Experience with volumetric video rendering to 2D screens and HMDs, and with audio rendering

pipelines using binaural or multichannel spatial audio.

  • Strong programming and prototyping skills in Python, Matlab, or similar languages.

  • Versatility with machine learning techniques and algorithms.

  • An understanding of scientific research and experimental design, hypothesis testing, and

collection of perceptual and experiential data.

  • Analytical skills and the ability to manipulate, visualize, and extract meaning from diverse and

novel data sets.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Benefits

  • Gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research in multimodal perception and computational

neuroscience.

  • Work alongside experienced engineers, researcher and scientists specializing in AI, acoustics,

vision science, neuroscience, and human perception.

  • Develop skills in immersive world construction, experimental design, data collection, analysis,

and interpretation.

If you are passionate about neuroscience, multimodal perception, and immersive world construction

using realtime engines, we encourage you to apply for this internship. We welcome applicants from

diverse backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment.
