WSYM-TV, an EW Scripps Fox affiliate is now hiring for a Multimedia Journalist in Lansing, MI!

The Multimedia journalist is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.

  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.

  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.

  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.

  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration

  • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.

  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.

  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.

  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi media stories.

  • Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.

  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.

  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.

  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.

  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • The position is remote temporarily and consistent with state law and station planning, due to the pandemic.

The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example; providing training in methods, processes and tactics; as well as in creating/editing origin content beyond that which is produced for on-air. * Develops and leads winning strategy for station content * Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms * Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines * Use our Social Media and Website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television * Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly * Research and analyze background information related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information * Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions * Pitches on-brand local and trending stories during morning meetings * Checks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts * Shoots and edits content for on-air and digital * Produces reports for all platforms * Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality * Builds and calendars digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials. * Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms * Performs other duties as assigned * Finds new ways to use Social Media and our website to engage with viewers * Learn all aspects of the 6 News Digital Studio and help produce live streams, breaking news live coverage, and exclusive 6 News Now content Requirements & Skills: * Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred * Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML preferred * CSS, Flash and other relevant technology skills is a plus * Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments * Flexibility to work a variety of shifts as staffing and news cycle dictate * Responds positively to feedback Nexstar Media Group Lansing MI
