Sherwood School District pays the 6% employee PERS contribution, upon eligibility.
Salary range listed is for the 2023-2024 school year; 2024-2025 salary schedule is TBD.
JOB SUMMARY: The Multilingual Instructional Specialist will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of the dual language immersion and English language development program to maintain and promote an effective multilingual, multicultural teaching and learning program at the building level. Additionally, the Multilingual Instructional Specialist will assist with data collection and maintenance, support assessment, monitor fidelity of DLI/ELD program implementation, and conduct staff professional learning activities. The Multilingual Instructional Specialist serves as an instructional leader on the building's leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
Collaborates with others (e.g., district personnel, community organizations, etc.) implementing and maintaining quality services and/or programs for dual language learners
Supports English language development and dual language immersion program at the building level
Manages and/or leads professional learning of English language development, dual language, and other multilingual programs
Coordinates and oversees the development of written reports, guidance, tools, and curriculum resources conveying information required to support quality instruction for emerging bilingual and multilingual students
Plays a key leadership role in Student Support Meetings (SST) and overall MTSS implementation at the building level
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records supporting multilingual students in both programs
Performs language screeners and uses data to support teachers and staff
Monitors students who have exited the English language development program
Participates in and leads meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars (e.g., supporting school districts, etc.) conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
Observes and provides support and instructional coaching to teachers in the DLI Program and staff serving English learners consistently with a specific focus on strategy implementation
Communicates information about DLI/ELD activities to staff and community
Participates in regional DLI/ELD trainings, networking and professional development
Monitors site requirements and program compliance
Coordinates and leads DLI/ELD professional development, trainings, and workshops
Partners with Instructional Coach to coordinate and support DLI/ELD activities and needs
Attends DLI/ELD conferences and trainings when possible
Meets with DLI/ELD Team to facilitate progress towards program goals
Provides support for recruitment, retention, and transition of DLI students
Coordinates the collection and submission of data
Supports and facilitates DLI events
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Support students and staff in the district's career related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement
Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods
Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position
Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district
Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Holds an appropriate license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon
ESL/ESOL endorsed
Native or bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing)
Experience in working with students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles
Experience as a Spanish dual language teacher
Ability to work with adults individually or in large groups
Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in the field of education
Experience providing ELD instruction for Emergent Bilingual students
Experience in planning and providing professional development activities with adults
Education and/or experience in differentiated instruction, conducting professional development focused on differentiation preferred
Experience in peer coaching

This position is primarily performed indoors in school buildings, although some outdoor instruction and supervision may be required. This position involves working in close proximity to groups of students and adults.
Evening and/or extended work hours may be required.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation of licensed personnel.
