Multicultural Student Success Coach

The Multicultural Student Success Coach within the Office of Diversity and Equity plays a crucial role in helping students navigate through the challenges of higher education by guiding, mentoring, and advocating for student success and completion. The Multicultural Student Success Coach position is designed to promote holistic student wellbeing with heightened focus on student demographic groups who reported more negative experiences in the campus climate survey. Over time, the work of the Multicultural Student Success Coach will help reduce existing equity gaps in retention and graduation rates and help foster positive outcomes for all students. This position primarily focuses on connecting students from diverse backgrounds to essential campus resources, providing peer tutoring services, and delivering holistic advising to promote their academic and personal success. As a new entity, the coaches also play a key role in establishing the day-to-day operations of the office.

Two individuals will be hired as a result of this search. These are full-time, temporary grant-funded positions.

Hired Multicultural Student Success Coaches will start in the Spring 2024 semester and serve through the 2024-2025 academic year.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree by time of appointment

• Demonstrated understanding of diversity and equity issues and a commitment to fostering an inclusive campus environment

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds

• Ability to make a positive connection with students

• Ability to work autonomously and productively, including effective management of time and competing tasks/projects and diverse floating deadlines

• A willingness to learn, adaptability and flexibility

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in advising, student support services, or a related field within a higher education setting
