The Multi-trade Residential Inspector completes inspection and/or enforcement activities, providing building trade field inspections of primarily residential and some commercial projects. Work requires knowledge and/or license in Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical trades and may include serving as a technical resource and/or lead over other inspectors.
Performs building trade field inspections of primarily residential and some commercial projects. Reviews building plans to determine compliance with applicable building codes and to issue building permits
Responds to information requests and inquiries; provides technical advice to City staff, design professionals, the public, and other project stakeholders. Interprets building codes and ordinances associated with area of trade(s) specialty
Performs code-related research to identify building code compliance issues and provide alternative solutions to resolve issues
Prepares and maintains reports, records, data and documentation related to inspections, plans review, research, and other project reviews
Plans and prioritizes schedule and field activities and maintains communication with property owners, other inspectors and stakeholders to coordinate and facilitate inspection work
Identifies, develops, implement and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and five years of building trades and inspection experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
Level I Licensure in 4 assigned trade or ability to obtain: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical
North Carolina Inspection certification or equivalent (certification level based on assignment)
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Knowledge of:
Construction materials, building practices and carpentry
