Multi-Skilled Journalist (Sports)

WBNS-TV, the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Ohios searching for a Sports Multi-Skilled Journalist. We are looking for a Sports MSJ who is passionate about telling sports stories of central Ohio through the voices of our diverse community. We need a passionate storyteller able to pivot quickly from covering The Ohio State Buckeyes and Columbus Blue Jackets to high school prep sports.

We want a sports journalist who goes beyond the play-by-play to tell important sports stories that impact Columbus. The candidate must be able to shoot and edit their own video, as well as produce sportscasts and specials.

Responsibilities:

• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in a developing story or in breaking news situations

• Develop story ideas

• Mine the community to find sources who will keep you informed about events and athletes who deserve to be profiled

• Ability to identify, write and produce stories within a specific framework.

• Research for facts and credibility.

• Maintain and develop sources who will help bring our sports reporting to the next level.

• Shoot, write, produce and edit on air and online content within deadlines.

• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.

• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.

• Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.

• Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.

• Must research, write, and front sports stories on tight deadlines.

• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.

• Ability to work mornings, nights and weekend shifts.

• Strong writing skills, both for digital and broadcast platforms.

• Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%
