Job Title Multi-Media Strategist Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications, the Multi-Media strategist combines vision and executive around video and photography strategy. The Multi-media strategist develops, writes, designs, and executes brand-relevant storytelling through video and photography. The Multi-Media strategist collaborates with IMC, Enrollment, and other campus partners to identify, research, write, edit, and manage video needs. The brand-relevant content created enhances John Carroll University's visibility, reputation, relationships, and resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive and creative plan for video and photography content creation to support the University's strategic enrollment communications, marketing, and brand awareness goals.

  • Manage the production and serve as the principal scriptwriter, project manager, and/or editor for a wide range of video and photography projects.

  • Partner with external video production companies to produce large and small-scale videos.

  • Act as a logistical partner to identify talent and locations for all videos.

  • Build relationships and leverage resources to uncover, capture, and convey student, faculty, and alumni stories vital to the university's strategic goals.

  • Manage the IMC photography and video calendar and photo media library.

  • Compile photography to support editorial efforts across multiple channels, including web, social media, news, and print.

  • Manage multimedia projects to support brand awareness, such as videos that may accompany web stories.

  • Run point on internal photography and video needs and own all IMC-operated video and photography equipment.

  • Manage student photographers and create a student photography strategy

  • Collaborates and contributes to groupthink and planning as it pertains to the overall marketing of John Carroll University.

  • Conduct on-camera interviews as needed with a variety of audiences, including JCU alumni.

  • Monitor national media and education trends, especially those with implications for John Carroll University.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience in Video or Photo Journalism,

  • Bachelor's Degree in Photo and Video Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field.

  • Professional experience with photography and photo editing software

  • Three years of professional experience in a communications role focused on writing and content creation and a strong understanding of the communications channel landscape.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce content for a wide range of audiences in a wide range of styles across all and communications channels.

  • Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills. Must demonstrate a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and familiarity with project management software.

  • Ability to proactively manage multiple projects and foresee campus needs in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to maintain high professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.

  • Commitment to promoting an inclusive community where differing points of view and experience are valued as mutual opportunities for learning.

  • Possess a design sensibility to envision how content will be presented or distributed in formats other than text-based articles, such as infographics or multimedia presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with editing web pages as it pertains to uploading editorial content

  • Experience with Drupal, Basecamp, or Adobe InDesign

  • Project management.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

This position works in person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations to attend and cover events in the evenings or on weekends.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Hours Full Time FLSA Exempt (Salary) Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary will be $52,000 - $63,000, commensurate with qualifications. This position offers a generous Total Rewards package that includes health and dental insurance options, paid vacation, personal, sick, and mission time, holidays, 403 (b) retirement plan, life insurance, and tuition remission benefits for you, your spouse, and children.
