Overview

Safe and efficient packing of mules and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare packs for delivery from the Rim to Phantom Ranch and back.

  • Properly dispose of waste/recycled items from Phantom Ranch.

  • Pack duffels for hikers, boat parties, etc.

  • Note special delivery items for the Ranch such as maintenance supplies.

  • Assist Phantom Ranch personnel as needed with unloading/loading of packs.

  • Feed and water mules at the Yaki barn, and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the Yaki barn and corral.

  • Advise the Packer Supervisor or Livery Manager of condition of the pack string.

  • Repair packing gear as necessary and report defective equipment to the Packer Supervisor.

  • Adhere to all safety and risk management policies while performing tasks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience handling horses or mules, and proven equestrian skills.

  • Must have own saddle and tack.

  • Ability to learn two-way radio communication equipment.

  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours.

  • Ability to safely lift 100 pounds on a regular basis.

VIEW JOBS 4/21/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-20T00:00 Overview To provide firefighting services and First Responder services for Xanterra South Rim. Responsibilities * Respond to fire calls for the Grand Canyon Village, investigate and report the incident. * Respond to medical calls for Xanterra properties. * Participate in all fire training sessions and be on call for firefighting responsibilities on Engine One and Two. * Assist National Park Service Law Enforcement and Fire Control Departments on scene, and follow instructions/directives given by the incident commander. * Maintain a professional working relationship with National Park Service Law Enforcement and Fire Department. * Resolve situations within your control and within guidelines established by Risk Management, Fire Department and National Park Service Law Enforcement. * Compile daily logs and write incident reports in timely and accurate manner. * Enroll, attend and successfully complete ongoing training classes as determined by the Fire & Security Captain. * Perform BAT and Urinalysis testing on employees per company policy as needed. * Adhere to all Risk Management, safety and environmental policies. * May be called upon to assist in the handling, storage and/or disposal of hazardous materials * Must maintain Fire & EMS certifications and refreshers as needed. * Complete an annual Wildland Pack Test to maintain Structural/Wildland eligibility (45 pounds, 3 miles in less than 46 minutes). * Assist F&S Security Officers as needed. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications * Obtain Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Certification within two years of hire. * ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 must be completed within six months of hire. * HazMat First Responder, and Operations certification desired. * Wildland (S-130/S-190) preferred, or complete within one year of hire. * Must possess a valid National Registry EMT Certification. * Must possess Arizona State Structural Firefighter I &II or equivalent IFSAC or ProBoard Certifications * Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy. * BAT and Urinalysis training must be successfully completed. * Must be at least twenty-one years of age at time of hire. * Ability to meet all medical and physical agility requirements for firefighters in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001. * Excellent written, verbal, and problem solving skills; plus ability to interact effectively with guests, employees and other designated officials. * Ability to calmly deal with medical, fire, or safety situations. * Working knowledge of radio communications.
