MTCC UM TRIO Upward Bound Summer

UM TRIO Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide the requisite academic skills and motivation that qualifying students will need for success in postsecondary education.

We work with students from the Blackfeet Nation and Missoula County schools. Throughout the school year, Upward Bound offers after-school mentoring in each of our target high schools, volunteer opportunities, monthly workshops on topics related to high school success and postsecondary enrollment, and tours of area colleges during fall or spring breaks. During our six-week residential STEM-focused Summer Academy, students live on campus, take courses to prepare for the upcoming school year, and participate in a variety of fun activities.

The goal of this project is to support high school students through experiential and classroom learning to alleviate summer learning loss and prepare them to engage in rigorous core courses in high school. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state.

Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.
