MTCC Missoula Food Bank and Community Center Summer
Missoula Food Bank and Community Center envisions a community that embraces food justice where no one feels shame or experiences stigma when asking for help. Missoula Food Bank & Community Center (MFB&CC) is an anti-racist, LGBTQ2S+ ally organization.
BIPOC and gender diverse applicants are encouraged to apply. Our Mission: We lead the movement to end hunger through advocacy, volunteerism and healthy food for all.
We nourish community. The goal of this project is to make nutritious, free meals accessible to children in their neighborhoods all summer long. When children are nourished, they are better able to succeed in other areas of their lives.
Improved nutrition has shown positive impacts in social, behavioral, mental well-being and physical wellness in children and adults. Access to nutrition and opportunities during the summer months has also been correlated to degrees of summer learning loss, the experience of children losing some of the knowledge gained in their previous school year throughout the summer. Children living in poverty experience a greater degree of summer learning loss, which can be correlated to the difference in experiences, exposure to activities, and frequency of meals.
Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana.
The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
