ROLE SUMMARY

The primary function of the MS&T Associate Process Engineer is the application of advanced manufacturing, science and technology processes to a given production segment by:

  • Performing trending and monitoring of critical quality attributes/critical process parameters to maintain product quality and to control process drift.

  • Implementing potential process improvements in conjunction with manufacturing operations.

  • Participating in start-up efforts of new equipment, software or processes in manufacturing.

  • Assisting in documenting changes/updates to manufacturing processes and working with manufacturing, engineering and validation to implement those changes.

  • Providing technical/scientific support on project deliverables, e.g. technology transfers, remediation initiatives, plan reports, etc.

  • Utilizing small-scale production processes and using scaled-down lab processes to enable process troubleshooting.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Individual responsible for executing projects/tasks assigned by Sr. Engineer or Engineer.

  • Execution of laboratory runs and writing technical reports summarizing laboratory results, generating necessary lab data to support product impact assessments during discrepancies and investigations.

  • Assures professional and quality performance in all activities, meeting times, cost and cGMP requirements.

  • Coordinates all work on scheduled projects (personnel activities, documentation and outside resources).

  • Identify opportunities for process/product improvements, develop alternative solutions to potential problem areas and establish the necessary contingency plans.

  • Responsible for organizing additional help for studies and/or runs.

  • May have to work 2nd or 3rd shift on occasion.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Engineering or Science required (Chemical Engineer, Material Science, or Biomedical Engineering preferred) with 0 2 years of experience.

  • This position requires a high level of resourcefulness as well as the ability to perceive and resolve problems, make difficult decisions, and to find a way to accomplish goals.

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.

  • Familiarity with global regulations on devices, drugs, validation/qualification requirements preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to details.

Work includes but is not limited to supporting identification and implementation of process improvements, system design, capital project support, and investigation support. Individual ensures all Process Engineering documentation deliverables are generated, is expected to develop new processes and/or optimize existing ones. The engineer is expected to support a broad range of equipment and processes. Employee will be working within a Small Volume Parenterals sterile injectable facility, including work within Aseptic clean rooms. Equipment and processes will include Formulation, CIP/SIP skids, commodity prep, washing, filling, capping and sterilization (to include dry heat ovens/tunnels and autoclaves) processes for a broad range of products and product configurations. Engineer will be expected to work with corresponding teams (automation, maintenance, ops, validation, quality functions) at the site to understand, implement and improve processes. Engineer is expected to understand the overall process sequences beyond individual equipment and impact on product quality. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Executes projects assigned by Process Engineering Manager. * Coordinates required work on scheduled projects needed to meet the deadlines developed by Plant Capital Plan, New Product Introductions, and New Process Technology Developments. * Responsible for manufacturing engineering support, the development of new process technologies, and the support of new product introductions/tech transfers. * Organizes testing associated with the development of new process technologies and the support of new product introductions/tech transfers. * Works closely with Corporate R&D and tech. services to develop and confirm Critical and Key Process Parameters needed for Equipment and Process Validation. Develops and delivers presentations to communicate project timelines and milestone completions. * Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for equipment and processes within area of responsibility and thereby serving as the SME for investigations, design reviews, equipment/process troubleshooting , Capital Project planning , change control and other related activities for the site. * Able to work well in cross functional teams, good communication and presentation skills, strong technical understanding, general automation knowledge, multi-tasking and time management. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Field or Scientific/Technical equivalent is required. * 1+ year of experience working with processes / process engineering. * Working knowledge of mechanical or industrial systems. * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. * Strong communication and presentation skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * 2+ years in pharmaceutical industry engineering is preferred. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS * Able to stand for extended hours for test runs. * Able to climb ladders/steps. * Able to lift items of 25 lbs . * Proficient in data analysis and troubleshooting of process issues.
