TITLE: Yearbook Sponsor

LOCATION: Eisenhower

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.

JOB GOAL: Responsible for all aspects involved in the publication of the middle school yearbook. The yearbook sponsor is responsible for things getting done correctly and on schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Enforce all rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association

  • Be responsible for scheduling of picture taking of all administrators, teachers, classes, groups, clubs, and activities during the school year.

  • Present or designate someone at events for picture taking.

  • Design layouts and proofread material as necessary.

  • Responsible for collecting, assembling, and organizing yearbook.

  • Develop and adhere to a budget for the entire production of the yearbook.

  • Requisition needed supplies.

  • Maintain inventory on all supplies and equipment associated with yearbook production.

  • Responsible for the selling, keeping of records, and distribution of the yearbook.

  • Supervise the collection and disbursement of all funds pertaining to yearbook activities.

  • Act as liaison between students and the yearbook company representative.

  • Act as liaison between school administration and students/parents.

  • Meet deadlines to publisher.

  • Complete production of the yearbook on time.

  • Be responsible for selling and distribution of yearbooks.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Activity Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • Current certification in CPR and AED

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION:

Speak clearly and concisely in written and oral form. Maintain communication with all constituents including district staff. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Organize work efficiently in order to support the mission and vision of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external sources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Coach is directly responsible for students' safety, work output and well-being. RATE OF PAY: Based on the KCKPS Supplemental Pay Schedule

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

REPORT TO: Athletic Director or Building Administrator

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.
