TITLE: Robotics Coach

LOCATION: Eisenhower

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.

JOB GOAL: To create a robotics activities program that promotes student learning and provide students the opportunity to engage in science and mathematical concepts through the construction, programming, and development of robotic applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Enforce all rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association

  • Attend supporting activities to provide information regarding the program

and/or recognizing participants' accomplishments

  • Holds organizational meetings for group prospects and encourages potential members to participate in the group/program.

  • Develops a regular practice or meeting schedule.

  • Works with the activities director in scheduling facilities for practices, meetings, and competitions.

  • Assign duties to an assistant as necessary.

  • Coaches and instructs participants, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the

activity.

  • Works with the activities director and business manager to conduct all fundraising activities by district protocol.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of participants at all times.

  • Monitors the academic performance of group members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages participants to maintain a high academic standard..

  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary.

  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.

  • Models appropriate behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards participants, officials, and spectators.

  • Acts as a program/group representative and promotes the program/group by communicating with the news media, booster

clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.

  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment and supplies.

  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.

  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

  • Respond to questions or concerns of students, parents, or other school staff to provide information, assistance, and/or direction

  • Supervise students at all sponsored related events to ensure proper student behavior

  • Support students in any project, outing, or club activity to ensure students have

everything they need for the club to function at its full potential

  • Ability to work to implement the vision, mission, and values of the district

  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Activities Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • Current certification in CPR and AED

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION:

Speak clearly and concisely in written and oral form. Maintain communication with all constituents including district staff. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Organize work efficiently in order to support the mission and vision of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external sources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Coach is directly responsible for students' safety, work output and well-being. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Varies by Sport

RATE OF PAY: Based on the KCKPS Supplemental Pay Schedule

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

REPORT TO: Athletic Director or Building Administrator

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.
