Purchasing is responsible for effectively managing the purchases from outside suppliers for both direct and indirect material and services. Purchasing is responsible for evaluating and purchasing the necessary items or purchases requested by an approved individual or party at the optimal value for the company. Emphasis must be placed on cost as well as quality to provide the best value.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Execute actions to reduce material costs and optimize the supply base.
Works on continuously consolidating the supply base, by reviewing requirements, and working on leveraging spend through standardization and long term agreements.
Solicits, evaluates, and provides analytical data, while taking in consideration TCO in support of proposals and recommendations regarding cost reduction and CI projects.
Develops formal RFQ's for various project based initiatives
Assures the supply base follows Shiloh Terms and Conditions, while working to optimize Cash Flow.
Follows written Purchasing Procedures and Work Instructions and ensures purchasing activities are compliant with: industry standards, company policy and governmental regulations.
Processes and maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents for specific commodities.
Supports Corporate initiatives and provides solutions to problems or issues.
Provides input regarding material and outside processing prices for the annual Plant budgets.
Ability to work flexible hrs.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (Supply Chain Management, Business or technical degree preferred); 1-5 years' experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret specifications, drawings and part requirements. Ability to understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from suppliers, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to write and speak to communicate technical information. Ability to effectively present information to suppliers or customers and make recommendations to management.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences and volume. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Physical demands that will be required of the position are as follows: regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
The work environment is primarily an office setting but will require time spent in the manufacturing plant settings from time to time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, eye and hearing protection are required when in the plants.
