Summary:

Purchasing is responsible for effectively managing the purchases from outside suppliers for both direct and indirect material and services. Purchasing is responsible for evaluating and purchasing the necessary items or purchases requested by an approved individual or party at the optimal value for the company. Emphasis must be placed on cost as well as quality to provide the best value.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Execute actions to reduce material costs and optimize the supply base.

  • Works on continuously consolidating the supply base, by reviewing requirements, and working on leveraging spend through standardization and long term agreements.

  • Solicits, evaluates, and provides analytical data, while taking in consideration TCO in support of proposals and recommendations regarding cost reduction and CI projects.

  • Develops formal RFQ's for various project based initiatives

  • Assures the supply base follows Shiloh Terms and Conditions, while working to optimize Cash Flow.

  • Follows written Purchasing Procedures and Work Instructions and ensures purchasing activities are compliant with: industry standards, company policy and governmental regulations.

  • Processes and maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents for specific commodities.

  • Supports Corporate initiatives and provides solutions to problems or issues.

  • Provides input regarding material and outside processing prices for the annual Plant budgets.

  • Ability to work flexible hrs.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (Supply Chain Management, Business or technical degree preferred); 1-5 years' experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret specifications, drawings and part requirements. Ability to understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from suppliers, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to write and speak to communicate technical information. Ability to effectively present information to suppliers or customers and make recommendations to management.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences and volume. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Physical Demands

Physical demands that will be required of the position are as follows: regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an office setting but will require time spent in the manufacturing plant settings from time to time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, eye and hearing protection are required when in the plants.

VIEW JOBS 12/1/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-01T00:00 Description Summary: This position is responsible for assisting the Finance Director and site Controllers with financial oversight of manufacturing locations within the business unit. The role will conduct specialized analysis for plants to uncover financial improvement opportunities to lead to a turnaround in operational results and/or to contribute to strategic planning decisions relative to manufacturing growth plans. The role will also coordinate the timely completion and submission of financial reports, presentations, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist the Finance Director to oversee the financial processes and preparation of month-end close statements, including the analysis of cost variance reconciliations, inventory reconciliations, general ledger entries, standard cost reconciliations, changes in Fixed Assets and forecast adjustments to budget. * Assist the Finance Director to oversee budget and trend forecast and assist the site(s) to prepare and provide explanation of significant variances. * Assist the site Controllers with preparation of internal financial reporting (i.e. – weekly pulse checks, monthly performance presentations, etc.). * Complete in-depth analysis for the location(s) to uncover opportunities for improvement with a specific focus on maintaining and/or increasing profitability and alignment with the unit's growth plan. * May also manage implementation of the recommendations. * Assist the plants in their preparation of annual plant business plans. Involved in initial review to ensure compliance to business unit objectives and targets. * Participate in monthly report-out sessions to present financials for the location(s). * Support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives (Kaizens & A3 problem solving events) by ensuring projects have defined and clear financial objectives and results are tracked and reported in the designated format, and ROI, Payback, cost savings and/or cost avoidance is verified. Role will have authority to approve or reject projects based on cost and alignment with the strategic plan of the location or unit. * Support the assigned location(s) with extraction of cost data out of the system and provide support to corporate with the annual standard cost development of plant rates (labor & overhead cost). * Act as consultant and additional advisor/mentor to plant leadership teams relative to impact of financial decisions. * May provide review and/or input into capital process & provide guidance/assistance preparing AR's. * Create forward-looking financial models and "what if" modeling capabilities, e.g. review/forecasting the trends, cost/benefit, margin impact (make vs. buy, etc.) enhancing the decision making process. * Assist the site Finance Team to ensure all plant accounting activities comply with GAAP, SHILOH polices and sound business practices. * May act in absence of the site Controller or be temporarily assigned to assist the site(s) based on special projects, activity levels, etc. * Travel to locations as needed, estimated at 10-25%. Supervisory Responsibilities The role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but will be responsible to coach and advise the site's Plant Controller, Cost Accountant, MRO Buyer and/or Accounts Payable teams. Minimum Requirements Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree (Accounting/Finance) from four year college or university. MBA strongly preferred. 5 to 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment. Skills and Abilities * Prior experience in Plant Controller role in automotive industry, preferred. * Experience in manufacturing accounting roles with a focus on cost accounting. * Experience in manufacturing planning & budgeting roles. * Solid verbal & written communication, analytical & leadership skills. * Strong fundamental "know-how" in accounting/finance/business related topics. * Ability to understand all changes in manufacturing strategy and provide insight & commentary. * Execution oriented and rigorous in meeting performance commitments. * Strong manufacturing background in quantitative analyses & ability to solve complex problems. * Experience in managing projects and evaluating measures (ROI, payback, cost avoidance, etc.). * Fluent in English and, preferably, Spanish.
