MRI TECHNOLOGIST East OP Imaging Center# # JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:# Performs radiology examinations and medical resonance imaging (MRI) procedures for diagnostic purposes using applicable imaging modalities.
.# Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies required to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within department. # Practices proper screening techniques for the patient or anyone entering the magnetic field to ensure patient and personal safety while in the surrounding magnetic field. # Performs MRI procedures as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities. Practices proper aseptic techniques and universal precautions according to approved procedure. Explains procedure to patient/family member in caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.# Positions and immobilizes patient. Performs magnetic resonance imaging of any body part, magnetic resonance angiography of arteries and other procedures operating a variety of radiographic and MRI equipment to produce desired images. Performs patient studies as qualified by education, skill, competency, and experience. Assists physicians with imaging procedures including administration of contrast media. Monitors patient condition and equipment during procedure. Reports adverse or any unusual reactions or events.# Records and prepares images of MRI for viewing in accordance with established standard procedures for physician#s interpretation of the exam and long-term storage. Recognizes and corrects technical errors to ensure a clear and accurate scan/image. Provides staff and patient protection in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards. Ensures accurate documentation in performing and processing all procedures including proper ordering, charging, and computer entry. Updates charts, exams and patient#s records.# Utilizes patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data maintaining confidentially at all times.# Ensures patient information and images are correctly transmitted to PACS system. # # # Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation (assessment, MRI procedure, and patient#s response during procedure). # Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to achieve positive patient outcomes. # Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). # Responds appropriately to emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel. # Maintains required department records, reports and files.# Operates the Radiology Information System to enter required test data and patient information, using all appropriate modules with accuracy. # Participates in quality/performance improvement.# Collects quality data for monitoring performance improvement and to produce the best value service. # Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.# Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up. # Assists in care and maintenance of equipment and effective utilization of supplies.# Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.# # Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.# Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and patient safety, environment and infection control standards. Performs other duties as required. # # MACHINES OR EQUIPMENT OPERATED:# Various diagnostic radiology and MRI imaging equipment, CRT, barcode reader, clinical equipment and computer systems.
1 year Radiology Technology experience recommended.
ARRT Certified (American Registered Radiology Technology) required.# Certification as a MRI Technologist is required within one (1) year of assignment.# Current CPR/BLS certification required. # KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS # ABILITIES: Exhibits knowledge of technical skills required to implement radiographic imaging as demonstrated through practices, MRI procedures/testing and recognizing abnormal and technically inadequate results.# Demonstrates skills to perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment and initiative of a technical level not requiring constant supervision.# Demonstrated ability to receive and follow written and oral instructions; ability to plan and organize work; ability to carry out daily schedule through individual or cooperative effort.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Graduate of an AMA approved program in radiology technology. Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Additional training may be required in area of assignment.
EXPERIENCE: 1 year Radiology Technology experience recommended.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: ARRT Certified (American Registered Radiology Technology) required. Certification as a MRI Technologist is required within one (1) year of assignment. Current CPR/BLS certification required.
