We are currently seeking a Full-time MRI Technologist in the Minneapolis area

The technologist operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce images that assist physicians in the treatment and diagnosis of our patients

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The technologist demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform imaging procedures that meet the quality expectations of the patient, referring physician, and radiologist. This is accomplished by: following the orders of the referring physician and protocols specified by Radiologist; administering medications such as contrast media as prescribed by the physician order; viewing images to ensure quality of pictures; transferring images to the customer for interpretation and verifying the images and patient information arrived correctly.

The technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she is able to identify and categorize each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.

The technologist complies with DMS policies, local, state and federal regulations and laws related to work duties and responsibilities. This includes conducting fire safety and medical emergency response drills, documenting preventative maintenance, performing safety assessments, preparing unit for transportation and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the unit.

The incumbent demonstrates commitment to customer satisfaction and quality as exhibited by internal and external customer feedback. This includes timely completion of mandatory education and current credentials.

The incumbent is in complies with safety and quality procedures and initiatives by strictly following safety policies, rules and safe work methods, making suggestions to support continuous improvements in safety, promptly correcting or reporting safety hazards or unsafe conditions, promptly reporting injuries for timely diagnoses and medical treatment, and by participating in safety processes such as safety committee, safety inspections, etc.

In an effort to promote professional growth to its employees and the organization, DMS may alter job duties, responsibilities and projects in the course of employment.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills

The individual should have the ability to access job related internet websites, review on-line documentation and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

RT (R), (CT)

CPR certified, mandatory education, TB

Advanced certification in modality must be obtained with 18 months of hire.

VIEW JOBS 7/15/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-10-13T00:00 SUMMARY Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a MRI Technologist in our MRI department. This full-time positions will work two weekends on one weekend off day shift and rotating weekday shifts. Under the direction of the area supervisor, performs patient care and technical functions to insure proper radiologic/medical imaging diagnosis of patients. RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs MRI exams under the order of a licensed medical practitioner * Provides for the physical and psychological needs of patients during MRI exams * Ensures room and equipment are adequately prepared * Reviews and verifies MRI exam orders, radiologist's protocol instructions, and patient identification in accordance with hospital policy to ensure correct exam is ordered on the correct patient * Assesses patient risk via patient interviews and chart review; alerts nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedure (MRI safety screening, labs, allergies, etc.) * Assesses patient's need for care following contrast administration; arranges renal function tests and follow up according to radiologist protocol * Instructs patients to self-administer pre-procedure medication and enters documentation in EMR * Ensures patients receive the same level of care as provided on patient's unit * Provides education to patient and family members, assesses understanding and documents in EMR * Assesses patient's level of pain and notifies nurse / provider as needed * Selects scan parameters with consideration given to established protocols, specific patient related MRI safety factors, and other factors influencing data acquisition * Performs venipuncture for contrast administration * Evaluates patency of IV catheters prior to contrast administration; administers saline flush per protocol pre/post IV contrast administration * Prepares and administers oral and/or IV contrast per department protocols as prescribed by a licensed practitioner * Demonstrates correct anatomic positioning and use of technical parameters relating to MRI exams * Ensure personnel caring for patient follow safety procedures (e.g. magnet safety, infection prevention, etc.) * Documents clinical information in patient's chart (e.g. IV documentation, signs / symptoms relevant to exam) * Monitors patient's oxygen saturation levels when caring for patients with orders for "continuous" O2 sat monitoring; addresses issues according to hospital protocol * Initiates response to complications and emergencies arising during exams; requests assistance from nurses, providers, and other personnel as needed. Follows MRI safety requirements during an emergency (e.g. removal of patient to MRI safe area) * Initiates basic life support action when necessary * Demonstrates extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes * Evaluates images, recognizes normal vs. abnormal anatomy and notifies the appropriate Radiologist as needed, and takes appropriate action to address image quality issues * Ensures patient is prepared and radiologist-ordered protocols for pre-medications have been completed, such as contrast allergy pre-medication * Handles and secures medications and equipment in accordance with hospital policies * Utilizes the image management system; acquire, format, manipulate, archives images to the PACS system * Assists physicians and residents as required with MR-Guided exams/procedures using aseptic technique as needed * Ensures "Time-Out" is performed prior to invasive procedures * Assists patient with completing informed consent form, after provider has completed informed consent discussion with the patient * Performs order entry; accepts verbal orders with read back and modifies orders per radiologist instruction or protocol * Utilizes electronic medical record system appropriately (orders, scheduling documentation, and billing) * Implements downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment fails * Instructs new staff and students in MRI procedures and techniques * Performs competency evaluations for new MRI personnel * Assists with education and training of medical staff (Radiology Residents, Fellows, RPA's etc.) * Maintains equipment and room in proper working condition and trouble-shoots malfunctioning equipment. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to proper personnel as soon as issue is recognized * Respects and uses equipment appropriately. Takes ownership and reports incidents involving themselves and the equipment when it happens * Performs various clerical duties * Performs quality control procedures * Demonstrates and promotes a healthy work environment and good teamwork; makes suggestions for improvements * Demonstrates patient / family-centered care behaviors * Assists in organizing work flow utilizing available staff and rooms * Assists in coordinating and participates in departmental continuing education in-services * Provides peer feedback for staff performance evaluations * Completes additional duties/projects as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: * Completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT * Currently certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) * Possess MR certification (ARRT) * Maintains minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT * Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 4 months of employment Hennepin County Medical Center Minneapolis MN
