MRI Technologist Aide

Location: Geneva and Elgin (must be willing to travel to multiple site locations: Geneva and Elgin, based on need)

Status: Part-Time (Less than 20 hours/week)

Days/Hours: Weekends

Summary

Greet, quick register, and collect payment for MRI patients. Assist patients in preparing for their MR exam. Adhere to MR Safety Policies and Procedures while supporting the MR Technologists with related MR duties. Stock and clean MR patient care areas. Prepare medical record documents

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides quality patient care and demonstrates professionalism in all situations; conducts themselves in accordance to FVOs mission statement and C.L.E.A.R. Model for communication.

  • Possess knowledge of MR safety procedures to ensure the safety for themselves, staff members, patients, and equipment.

  • Displays knowledge with regard to medical devices allowed within the MR environment. Maintains awareness of new MRI safety device information.

  • Prepares and changes patients for MRI procedures to ensure patient safety within the MR environment.

  • Understands and displays knowledge of coil and cable safety as it relates to patient and coil positioning within the MR bore.

  • Inspects coils integrity before the use on a patient and removes any faulty coils from operation.

  • Able to quickly register, collect and document MR co-pays or deductibles payments at time of service.

  • Handles MR equipment with care; maintains the integrity and safe use of all MRI equipment. Reports equipment failures to the MR Manager.

  • Able to consistently and clearly communicate to patients precise instructions of MR examinations.

  • Possesses knowledge of the phone system and email system; efficiently addresses communications in a timely manner.

  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records, including patient safety screening forms, medical record requests, authorizations, and medical reports.

  • Possesses knowledge of the Electronic Records system to send clinical tasks, check benefit information, print schedules, view patients chart, and office notes.

  • Efficiently answers and returns telephone calls/emails regarding questions and concerns pertaining to the MRI department. Possesses knowledge of the phone system and email system.

  • Demonstrates safe work practices as mandated by OSHA and ACR.

  • Displays knowledge of and adheres to infection control policies and procedures including cleaning of equipment and patient care areas.

  • Stocks MR supplies, forms and linen; assists in maintaining proper supply volumes, and notifies the MR Manager of expired or inadequate supplies and medications. Utilizes the barcode purchasing system correctly to ensure reordering.

  • Assists with miscellaneous job duties, such as logging scheduled outside cases and preparing documents for Radiologist billing and Peer-review documents.

  • Provides consistent, accurate and constructive feedback to the MR Manager.

  • Understands HIPAA requirements and the proper handling of PHI.

  • Additional job duties as required:

  • Efficiently and accurately schedules MRI and Arthrogram patients in appropriately allotted exam time slots. including special accommodations per the patients medical condition and pre-screening x-rays or sedation needs.

  • Position patients for MR exams under the direct supervision of the MR Technologist.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • Up to 1 year of clerical OR clinical experience in a healthcare environment preferred but not required.

Specific Skills:

  • Able to make appropriate and independent decisions.

  • Have the ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.

  • Possesses excellent communication skills.

  • Possesses basic computer skills in order to schedule, and perform needed office duties.
