Occ Summary

Perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasksassociated with the operation of high field strength mag nets.

Work Performed

Screen patients for MR safety pr iorto procedure performance.Assist radiologist with procedure protocolin gand performance. StartI.V.s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images andsequence of acquisition and label appropriately.Schedule patie nts for procedures; assist with clerical functions.Charge MR procedures and supplies in EHRLoad and operate power injectors for contrast media a dministration.Maintain accurate patient records.Provide orientation for new technologists

Provide education andtraining for student technologist s.Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MRpro cedures.Understand and use the Image Archival SystemPerform complex task sassociated with the operation of high fieldstrength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographicimages of specific body parts.P osition patients for MR scans using immobilization and protectiveequipme nt as required.Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performa nce.Assist radiologist with procedureperformance. Administer contrastme diaor as directed and per protocol.

Evaluate MR scans for technicalquali ty, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and labelappropria tely.Coordinate scheduling and patient flow involving multiple MR sites. Assist with education and training of new physicians (interns,residents, and fellows, attending's) if Applicable.Assist radiologists and physici sts in developing new protocols and MRimaging techniques that are unique to DUHSHelp facilitate research for the Duke Health System by scanning andusing protocols given. Demonstrate proficiency in the 100+ MR protoco lsin the Health System. Education

Completion of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology plus completion of an accredited MR program ORGraduate of a bachelor's degree program in Radiology, with two semesters of clinical rotation in MR OR Completion of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology with two years of DUHS Radiology experience

Experience

Level I must obtain ARRT certification within 12 months of employment. Level II Minimum of two years' experience as an MRI technologist. Level III A minimum of 4 years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

ARRT certification in Radiography MR certification within 12 months of employment BLS certification

Technologists initially qualifying on or after April 28, 1999, must meet the Mammo-Specific requirements by having at least 40 hours of documented training in mammography. Experience Level I must obtain ARRT certification within oneyear of employment. Performance of a minimum of 25 mammography exams under direct supervision of an appropriate MQSA qualified individual. At least 8 hours of training in using any modality (e.g., digital) before beginning to use that modality independently. Level II Minimum of two years' experience as a Mammography technologist. Must perform at least 200 mammography examinations in a 24 month period. Level III A minimum of 4 years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion Degrees, Licensures, Certifications ARRT certification in radiography ARRT advanced certification in mammography FDA/MQSA qualified to include meeting the MQSA CE requirements of at least 15 CEUs in a 36 month period that must include at least 6 CEUs in each mammographic modality used.
