Who We Are……McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, basedin Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package.We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused onthese two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is "easiest to dobusiness with". We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants. We willprovide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly,we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and projectowners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades.

Position SummaryMPI Houston is seeking an experienced shipping clerk to join our distribution center. The shipping clerkis responsible for managing the shipment of all products, materials, and supplies. Collaborates andcommunicates with customer service representatives, service providers, and others involved in theshipment of products. Tracks, traces, and updates the status of outgoing shipments.

Responsibilities

Scope of Responsibilities

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.

  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot,

  • hand, head and eye protection.

  • Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work

  • Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.

  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the MPI Management Program. Advise management

  • of any deviations from this program.

  • Comply with applicable company policies including, but not limited to, personnel and HSE

  • Ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Assemble industrial butterfly valves according to blueprints and work instructions.

  • Install and torque gaskets, seals, bearings, and other valve components.

  • Attach and configure electric or manual actuators according to specifications.

  • Conduct leak and pressure tests on assembled valves using specialized equipment.

  • Document test results and ensure valves meet quality control standards.

  • Maintain clean and organized work area.

  • Inspecting goods: The clerk inspects incoming goods for damages, defects, or other issues and reports

  • any discrepancies to the appropriate parties.

  • Documenting shipments: The clerk is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate records of all

  • incoming and outgoing shipments. This includes tracking numbers, packing lists, and bills of lading.

  • Organizing and storing goods: The clerk organizes incoming goods in the warehouse or storage area,

  • ensuring that they are easily accessible and properly labeled.

  • Picking and packing orders: The clerk picks and packs outgoing orders according to customer

  • specifications and prepares them for shipment.

  • Shipping orders: The clerk is responsible for arranging the shipment of outgoing goods, including

  • selecting the appropriate carrier, preparing shipping documents, and ensuring timely delivery.

  • Communicating with vendors and customers: The clerk communicates with vendors and customers to

  • resolve issues, answer questions, and provide updates on shipment status.

  • Ability to execute accurate cycle counts and physical inventory and research, reconcile and report all

  • discrepancies to appropriate parties.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands

  • to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

  • The employee is required to communicate both verbally and written in English.

  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and

  • occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE

  • (steel toed boots, safety glasses and hearing protection)

  • Must be able to work in dust and fumes.

  • Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum of one year of experience in assembling and testing industrial valves or related mechanical

  • components preferred.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles and basic tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to lift and handle heavy parts and components.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to operate forklift trucks for loading / unloading trucks and maintaining rack storage facilities.
