Duties

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Loading and unloading linen carts, unpacking new linen, marking new linen, delivering linen to the Unit from the clean linen room, delivering uniforms, folding clean linen, and performing other related activities.

  • Gathers, assembles, consolidates, and lifts bags of soiled linen into carts.

  • Pushes loaded carts from the dock onto laundry truck.

  • Ensures laundry carts/cargo are properly secured to prevent damage to the equipment and/or vehicle.

  • Transports carts to the laundry area where they are unloaded and weighed on a dock scale.

  • Maneuvers the vehicle in and around congested dock areas of the hospital.

  • Operates dock leveling devices.

  • Sanitizes truck following each soiled linen delivery to the laundry.

  • Loads clean carts of linen onto the truck at the clean laundry dock.

  • Delivers clean carts to all distribution points.

  • Returns all empty linen carts to the laundry area for restocking.

  • Follows established delivery schedules.

  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of the vehicle and other equipment.

  • Reports maintenance or repair needs to the Textile Care Manager or Work Leader.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. SCREEN-OUT: Requires the ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator

  • Laundry Truck Driver without more than normal supervision. Related experience includes operating gas-powered vehicles such as vans or trucks to deliver items to and from a facility; loading and unloading items from the delivery vehicle; and following instructions/directions. (Resume must support this experience to be creditable. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.)

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.

The SPF for this position is: Employee must possess a current, valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (Please DO NOT submit a copy of driver's license. We cannot accept pictures. Licenses will be verified during interview.)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee must be free of physical handicaps that would adversely affect their ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe and proper manner. The employee must constantly stand walk, turn, bend, lift, etc. in the performance of assigned duties. The employee must be able to push and pull heavy cargos on and off the vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is required to work outside in all types of weather- and weather-related conditions. Employee must drive, operate equipment, and move cargo in extreme weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain, snow, ice, etc. The employee is exposed to possible bumps, bruises and other injury from vehicles and equipment.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
