The position of Motor Vehicle Operator is assigned to Engineering Service.The incumbent serves as the driver for the Mobile Health Clinic bus, transporting medical staff to provide healthcare services to our Veteran population. Incumbent is responsible for the transportation needs of the facility for the purpose of transporting patients, supplies, equipment, display, lab specimens, VA Executive Staff members, and visiting dignitaries.

Incumbent operates one or more motor vehicles.
Responsible for the immediate transportation needs of the Medical Center.
The incumbent maybe used as a Mobile Clinic Bus driver, Shuttle/Bus driver, and or any type of driver needed.
Assigned to give on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Performs other related or administrative duties as assigned.
The incumbent will check and service vehicles for such items as water, oil, fuel, battery liquid, tires, lights, horn, windshield wipers, ect.
Makes emergency repairs such as changing tires.
Responsible for the elimination of safety hazard and is also responsible for the general housekeeping of the motor pool office and vehicles.
The Motor Vehicle Operator must be able to read and analyze data on special gauges to ensure proper engine operation, gear selection and air pressure requirements for air-brake system.

Light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort in the handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs on vehicles. Must be able to assist patients into and out of vehicles, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping, bending and lifting of patients. Must also be able to load and assist wheelchair patients, often with no assistance. VISION: Near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors and basic shades of colors.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works mostly outside, is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts and bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading or unloading and securing or un-securing to vehicle. Operates in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent) and is exposed to the danger of accidents. Ability to drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems is required.
