What you will be doing:

Work as part of the Correspondence Team processing incoming and outgoing Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) mail and providing guidance and support for all types of DMV transactions to Alaskans. This position requires thorough knowledge in explaining driving privileges, processing vehicle registrations, temporary registrations, and other specialty permits. The Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative (MVCSR) 1 will interact directly with the public oftentimes explaining policies, statutes and regulations via mail, email, and phone.

The working environment you can expect:

The position is located at the Anchorage DMV location in the mail room as part of the Correspondence team. You can expect to process mail transactions into digital format and communicate with customers through email. Training is a mix of on-the-job training (OJT) and classroom. After training, the MVCSR 1 will work on a state computer with direct access to the secure network. The hours are 9:00 a.m.

  • 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Ability to accurately and efficiently enter information into multiple databases and correspond clearly through email both internally and with the public. Accept correct payment in the form of cash, check, or credit card and return accurate change when needed.

  • Ability to multi-task by reviewing documents, entering data and information while communicating verbally with customers in a loud open-concept office setting.
  • Work Independently
  • Demonstrate independence by finding efficiencies, making decisions and minor problem solving.

Examples of qualifying experience include such work as sales cashier, bank teller, food service wait staff or cashier, and so on.

OR

Six months of office clerical employment experience providing information to clients, customers, or the general public on services, procedures, and requirements, which included entering or retrieving data using computer systems.

Substitution:

Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience. (Three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month.)
