Operates a garbage truck; supervises inmates in the removal of trash from parks. Mows grass; operates weed-eater, edger, and lawn tractor.
Operates dump truck. Operates front-end loader; loads and unloads material from trucks. Operates a chain saw in the removal of trees, limbs, and brush.
Supervises the work of inmate laborers; transports inmates to and from corrections facility. Inspects vehicles and equipment; performs general maintenance duties; maintains inventory of supplies and tools; washes vehicles. Completes required reports of daily activities.
Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in park maintenance activities. Knowledge of the techniques used in the maintenance of assigned equipment.
Skill in the operation of various types of heavy and light construction equipment. Applicant should have knowledge of athletic field. Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
Skill in the supervision of inmate laborers. Skill in the preparation of reports and records. Skill in oral and written communication.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
