Summary: Underwrites residential mortgage loans, ensuring compliance with appropriate company and secondary market investor standards by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet applicable conventional investor program standards and represents an acceptable credit risk for the bank.

  • Approves or rejects the loan application or requests additional information.

  • Examines loan documentation such as AUS results, Income and asset documents, collateral related documents and other miscellaneous documents for accuracy and completeness.

  • Works with Mortgage Loan Officers, account executives and other parties related to the transaction to consider loan level scenarios, discuss conventional investor guidelines and secure all required documents.

  • Works with the quality control department to respond to conventional investor, mortgage insurance and general quality control review findings.

  • Authority to withdraw and decline loans.

  • Participates in training opportunities to remain current on various conventional investor guidelines

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university preferred but not required. A minimum of one year underwriting experience or two years' experience as a junior underwriter required.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to use basic office machines. Ability to learn bank-specific software such as MPC, IBS, ADP, etc.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Has received and/or is working towards FHA Direct Endorsement Underwriter and/or VA Staff Approved Reviewer designations.

Bank Culture/Customer Service Skills

Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, customers and supervisor. Ability to serve customers, both internal and external, (community/public) in a manner that will reflect superior customer relations and enhance the overall marketing effort of Origin Bank.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
