Department Overview

The Mortgage Loan Officer sells and originates residential mortgage loans to sales goals. Takes residential mortgage loan applications and offers or negotiates terms of residential mortgage loans.

Employee must maintain an active registration status with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry).

Job Description

Takes residential mortgage loan applications AND offers or negotiates terms of residential mortgage loans for compensation or gain

Employee must maintain an active registration status with NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry)

Meets with Prospects identified directly as well as referred by realtors, developers, attorneys and other external and internal referral sources

Explains variety of mortgage products and services available and offers recommendations based on evaluation of individual prospect needs

Guides Customers through the mortgage application process; explains information required and other aspects of the loan process to Customers

Ensures applications are completed accurately and contain required information and supporting documentation

Manages Customers' expectations regarding processing times and closing dates

Sells and originates residential mortgage loans according to established policies and procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines

Generates referrals for mortgage sales opportunities and sales of other Company business line products

Develops plan to achieve sales goals with assistance from sales management.


Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below.
24 Years of mortgage origination experience.

Proven Sales ability.

Developing knowledge of mortgage industry, products, lending practices and regulatory guidelines.

Maintains the highest level of sales ability and negotiation skills.

Selfdirected, ability to plan own activities to achieve sales goals.

Strong time management skills.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

PC skills, including ability to learn mortgage origination and automated underwriting systems.

A satisfactory criminal background check, a credit report, and a review of information from the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR) regarding any administrative, civil, or criminal findings by any government agency are required by federal law for this position (Regulation Z, 12 CFR Part 1026).

Must be eligible for employment under regulatory standards applicable to the position.

National MLO Sales We are currently searching for a Mortgage Loan Officer to promote and sell mortgage products to increase mortgage product use among banking customers, non-customers and referrals made by branch personnel. In this role you will ensure the achievement of individualized production goals, operational excellence and growth and profitability, while maintaining a personal pipeline of retail mortgage loans. You will be required to travel amongst several branch locations on a regular basis and visit clients regularly. In this position, you will: * Ensure you provide professional and timely consultation to customers and prospective customers, referrals, walk-ins and personal prospects to offer the best available mortgage product which includes: 1) obtaining and processing mortgage loan applications; 2) pre-qualifying customers for appropriate mortgage loan products based on customers' credit profile; 3) reviewing credit loan files; 4) collecting, reviewing and submitting necessary documentation to facilitate the processing of the loan through to the mortgage closing and post closing as needed: 5) preparing and providing required disclosures throughout the loan process and; 6) providing ethical consultation to ensure loans meet quality control standards and are in compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines. * Build relationships with and support bank personnel in generating mortgage loans by promoting mortgage products and consulting personnel on the mortgage product(s) and process. * Support department business goals through effectively managing personal pipeline to drive volume. * Visit with clients and prospective clients regularly and recommend products or applicable services. * Participate in home financing expos and events to increase brand awareness and mortgage volume. * Adhere to general bank regulatory procedures including BSA/AML as it pertains to "know your customer". To be considered, you will need: * High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. * Minimum of 7 years of loan consultation experience required. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. English/Spanish bilingual preferred. * Effective sales ability and persuasiveness. * Must have intermediate to advanced computer and analytical skills. * Successful completion of Mortgage Loan Officer licensing requiring for lending in FL, NY and NJ. * This position requires National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration under the terms of the S.A.F.E Act of 2008 and Regulation Z.
