Job Description

The Mortgage Loan Officer sells and originates residential mortgage loans to sales goals. Takes residential mortgage loan applications and offers or negotiates terms of residential mortgage loans.


  • Meets with Prospects identified directly as well as referred by realtors, developers, attorneys and other external and internal referral sources.

  • Explains variety of mortgage products and services available and offers recommendations based on evaluation of individual prospect needs.

  • Guides Customers through the mortgage application process. Explains information required and other aspects of the loan process to Customers.

  • Ensures applications are completed accurately and contain required information and supporting documentation.

  • Manages Customers' expectations regarding processing times and closing dates.

  • Sells and originates residential mortgage loans according to established policies and procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines.

  • Generates referrals for mortgage sales opportunities and sales of other Company business line products.

  • Develops plan to achieve sales goals with assistance from sales management.


  • Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below.

  • 24 Years of mortgage origination experience.

  • Proven Sales ability.

  • Developing knowledge of mortgage industry, products, lending practices and regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintains the highest level of sales ability and negotiation skills.

  • Selfdirected, ability to plan own activities to achieve sales goals.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • PC skills, including ability to learn mortgage origination and automated underwriting systems.

Required Skills DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Attracts new mortgage loan applications by developing relationships within the community, specifically with the real estate community; making sales calls to prospective customers. * Preparing and reviewing initial disclosures for borrower(s) to sign. * Liaison between borrower and Florida Community Bank. * Collecting appraisal fee from borrower prior to ordering the appraisal. * Reviews mortgage loans by examining application and supporting documentation; estimating credit-worthiness; calculating repayment risk. * Be up to date with underwriting guidelines and overlays. * Collect all required documentation from borrower requested by processor, underwriter, and closer. * Protects bank's image by keeping mortgage loan information confidential. * Complies with all federal regulations and bank policies. * Enters in all required dates in Loan system including but not limited to Application date, Withdrawal date, etc. * Inform Loan Coordinator when borrower is ready to lock the loan. * Review and sign "Loan Officer Closing Sheet" for accuracy of loan details. * Sends necessary re-disclosures to borrower for signature prior to closing. * Accomplishes bank mission by completing related results as needed. * This position will require the employee to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing system and Registry ("Registry") and obtain a unique identifier from the Registry before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities, to maintain and renew that registration on an annual basis, to update registration information with the Registry on a timely basis, and to provide the unique identifier to consumers as required by the SAFE Act, Loan Originator requirements under Regulation Z and FCB's policies and procedures. * Adhere to confidentiality policy, code of ethics and follow all policies and procedures relative to Consumer Compliance laws and regulations and best practice recommendations. Required Experience SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: * High school diploma required; College course work or degree in related business field preferred * 5-10 years experience as a residential mortgage loan officer, preferably in a bank environment, with a strong personal following * Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). * Proficiency with PC applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook and mortgage software. * Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus WORKING CONDITIONS: * Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like. * Extended viewing of CRT screen. * May include local or overnight business travel.
