Please review the following job description:

Manage a team responsible for a variety of loan origination processing and documentation functions. Support multiple production channels including the Community Bank, equity products, portfolio products, Wealth Division, and Electronic Delivery Channel in a large centralized environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1.Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Mortgage Lending products, policies, processes and required documentation for Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and portfolio products, as required.

2.Assist team members with submitting mortgage loans to Underwriting in order to ensure BB&T Mortgage and investor policies and procedures are met which includes calculating all forms of income (e.g. wage earner, retirement, self-employed), reviewing real estate appraisals, calculating appropriate homeowners insurance coverage, calculating specific mortgage product program income and ratio requirements, and analyzing bank statements to determine sufficient required assets.

3.Coordinate with Mortgage Loan Originators, Underwriting, and Closing to ensure timely and accurate loan closings.

4.Supervise staff to ensure team production goals are achieved and loans are closed within expected service level agreements and regulatory parameters. Ensure all staff is fully utilized.

5.Provide appropriate coaching and mentoring to team members and manage disciplinary issues per Human Systems policies.

6.Measure production and quality performance expectations for all direct reports.

7.Recruit, develop and retain high performing team members to ensure ongoing success in meeting department standards.

8.Develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, internal and external clients/business partners, and vendors.

9.Adhere to all compliance regulations, as directed.



  1. Conduct proactive and effective pipeline management in accordance with performance standard expectations.

  2. Directly resolve or coordinate the resolution of client service-related problems on behalf of internal and external clients to ensure the Perfect Client Experience (PCE) is delivered. Reinforce all PCE standards with team.

  3. Provide leadership and direction to team members to mitigate risk within the department.

  4. Assist with adhering to and administering budget requirements and department strategies.

  5. Handle overflow processing of files, as needed.


Required Skills and Competencies:

1.High School diploma or equivalent

2.Five years of financial industry experience or equivalent

3.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients

4.Client service experience

5.Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities

6.Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines

7.Ability to manage and monitor the performance of others and provide quality coaching to improve performance

8.Thorough knowledge of underwriting guidelines (conventional and government)

9.Strong organizational skills



  1. Ability to manage and motivate others effectively

  2. SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act compliant (or compliant within 30 days of employment in this role, including new or transfer of registration and acceptable NMLS background check)

  3. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products

  4. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight


Desired Skills:

1.Bachelor's degree in business-related field

2.Basic knowledge of other Bank services and products

3.Management/leadership experience

Develop positive working relationships and answer inquiries from co-workers, internal and external clients, attorneys, and vendors. 4. Prepare accurate wires for funding and general ledger debit tickets for each proceeds check using the correct account number for all loan types and distributions. Input loan proceeds information on the mortgage loan servicing system for proper control of closing funds. 5. Adhere to all compliance regulations. 6. Conduct proactive and effective pipeline management in accordance with performance standard expectations. 7. Identify, analyze and resolve closing problems independently and accurately.
