This position is a hybrid work model and can be based out of Billings, MT; Bend, OR; Sioux Falls, SD; Omaha, NE; Denver, CO; Spokane, WA; Chandler, AZ or Boise, ID.

SUMMARY

The Mortgage Learning Consultant works closely with all Mortgage departments and serves as a subject matter expert on training for all areas of the origination process with an emphasis on sales. This role is responsible for creating and delivering engaging training to both new hires and tenured employees to ensure successful knowledge and skill delivery. The Mortgage Learning Consultant will also oversee the administration of course evaluations while performing analysis to determine individual or departmental performance gaps and needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.

  • Training across the Mortgage Department, for both new hires and ongoing, most prominently for the roles of Loan Processor and Loan Officer

  • Training to include standard business practices (use of a CRM, use of internal technology, customer service skills, etc.) as well as technical industry training (how to close specific types of loans, how to use Encompass the way our company uses it, etc.)

  • Coordinate with managers to determine training needs and schedule training sessions

  • Coordinate with Compliance Department to develop and expand any training required to ensure ongoing compliance

  • Design effective training programs and partner with Learning and Development to create and distribute materials.

  • Design and develop learning solutions in a variety of delivery methods, including web-based e-learning courses, virtual synchronous sessions, classroom sessions, meeting kits, user guides, job aids, and various communications. Skilled in the use of presentation programs such as Microsoft Power Point, and virtual meeting programs such as Teams and Webex.

  • Facilitate learning in both virtual and classroom delivery methods, focused on achieving program learning objectives through learner engagement.

  • Assist in data auditing and monitoring to help identify additional training needs, per individual or per role, based on performance

  • Conduct needs assessments and analyzes the training needs of the Sales and Processor Roles.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs by analyzing trainee feedback and ensure that the content of the training programs meets the business needs of First Interstate Bank.

  • Evaluate trainee skills and workplace behavior (before and after training) and make recommendations.

  • Possess a working knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory laws and policies, as well as internal credit policies, underwriting procedures, and audit standards. Keeps up to date with changes in federal regulations and lending requirements

  • Provide direct feedback to team members

  • Maintains a system for updating training materials, monitoring training progress and documenting completed training

  • Builds and maintains training knowledge and skills to be an effective communicator and trainer.

  • Connect with new Sales employees on their first day by introducing themselves, ensuring sure new hire can login/access essential equipment and software applications, etc.

  • Conduct check-ins to address any lingering questions or concerns and provide ongoing support to new hire in the first 6 months of hire.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university, certification(s) or credential(s) from an accredited talent development agency preferred; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Experience in the mortgage industry required - employees being trained will have at least a minimum level of job experience and/or licensing, but this trainer will be required to build a training program and train on specifics of the industry. Excellent consulting skills; must be able to guide and align stakeholders around specific implementation recommendations. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communications skills. Skilled facilitator, capable of establishing credibility with a variety of audiences and leading them through the learning process, effectively managing discussion and presenting content in an engaging, dynamic fashion. Passionate and enthusiastic about the learning field. Advanced PC and office equipment skills required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries of complaints of customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

We offer a competitive total compensation package including base salary and benefits. The anticipated pay range for this position is $63,768 to $105,217 per year (in CO & WA), and depends on a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience, education, and geographic location. Additionally, this role is eligible to receive annual discretionary cash bonuses. Benefits available for this position include, but are not limited to, medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability benefits and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings account, employee assistance program, 401(k), Paid Time Off (new hires accrue at .069 per hours worked which equates to approximately 18 days per year inclusive of paid sick time) and up to 11 paid Federal holidays.
