Duties and Responsibilities
Leads the Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance and employee training area within the Mortgage Originations Department. Serves as subject matter expert for Mortgage Lending on all compliance-related issues.
Reviews laws and regulations that impact Mortgage Lending's compliance requirements, with emphasis on Regulation Z, Regulation B, FCRA, TRID, HMDA, NMLS, and ECOA. Evaluates mortgage lending policies, procedures, products, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Recommends, develops, and implements appropriate policy and procedure changes.
Develops all departmental training materials specific to each job family.
Conducts all job specific training needs for new hires and existing staff, including, but not limited to, on-boarding programs, and development of a training calendar with required courses as directed by the Vice President of Mortgage Originations.
Ensures changes in policy or procedure are communicated to impacted staff, business units, or the Credit Union as a whole. Ensures new procedures are properly understood, communicated, and implemented. Works with Vice President to develops compliance materials and associated training programs.
Prepares and responds to mortgage loan error reports for HMDA Reporting purposes, among other regulations.
Tests updates and new releases of host and loan origination computer software.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting area of expertise. Attends educational events that will increase professional knowledge and be otherwise beneficial to the Credit Union. Completes annual BSA/AML Compliance Training and understands employee's role in maintaining an effective BSA/AML compliance program, and completes FACT Act Red Flag training.
Minimum Education, Experience and Skill Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. (A comparable combination of work experience and training may be substituted for education requirements.)
5 or more years progressively responsible work experience in the financial services industry, to include experience in Consumer Lending. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to analyze and resolve difficult problems and situations.
Good knowledge and understanding of Credit Union products, services, policies, and procedures pertinent to the job.
Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities.
Good knowledge and understanding of all Credit Union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators. Able to influence others through explanation of fact, policies, and practices.
Works independently with general supervision.
Safe Act Statement
This position requires the employee to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and obtain a unique identifier from the Registry before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities, to maintain and renew that registration on an annual basis, to update registration information with the Registry on a timely basis, and to provide that unique identifier to consumers as required by applicable SAFE Act regulations and Suncoast Credit Union policies and procedures.
