Aptiv is looking to hire a part-time Youth Mentor 1 to support our participants with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working. Are you considering a career in human services?

Would you like to develop problem-solving and training skills while making a difference? Do you want to work in a supportive and positive environment with opportunities for professional development in the human services field? If so, please read on! This part-time position starts at $10.40/hr and pays an extra $1.50/hr for weekend shifts.

Aptiv, established in 1976 as Riverfront Activity Center, was the idea of three friends from the community of La Crosse, WI to develop one organization that supported individuals with disabilities in all three primary needs--social, employment, and independent living. In the fall of 2017, we revealed a new name, new identity and a new brand ' Aptiv ' a positive blend of the words live, aptitude, active, and adaptive. Today, we support more than 1,700 people with disabilities through eight locations and across 42 counties in the state of Wisconsin.

Carrying out our mission of providing a spectrum of innovative support for individuals with disabilities so they may live more independent lives would not be possible without our amazing staff. We welcome their thoughts, opinions, and ideas, as we encourage an open, caring work culture. We also care about the health, wellbeing, and safety of our employees and promote a positive work-life balance with a flexible work environment.

As a Youth Mentor 1, you have the rewarding job of providing supportive human services to our youth participants with varying degrees of developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Under the guidance of the Service Leader, you work with these youth before and after school, when school is off, and on weekends. In collaboration with the Behavior Support and Outcome Specialist teams, you help these youth develop socially and learn life skills in order to reach personal goals and increase independence.

You provide mentoring in small groups or one-on-one. Primarily, you work on skill-building to assist these youth in managing their emotions according to their individualized service plans.

You teach coping skills and anger management strategies. You are consistent and apply your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to your work. You are conscientious about keeping up-to-date and accurate documentation about all interventions and outcomes.

Though your job is extremely satisfying, it also has its challenges. You patiently respond to verbal or physical aggression with the appropriate behavioral intervention that you have been trained in and are committed to the safety of all involved.

Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each participant that you work with, but you also maintain proper professional boundaries at all times. You love making a difference in the lives of youth with developmental disabilities and are passionate about continuing to develop your knowledge and skills!
