JOB SUMMARY Responsible for on-going surveillance and interpretation of a patient#s cardiac rhythm while on a cardiac monitor.# Monitor Technician provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.# The technician delivers telemetry to intermediate units and performs monitor hook-up/discharge, patient preparation, and teaching related to the monitor. DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS# Responsible for assisting RNs and/or clinicians with cardiac monitoring, interpretation, measures, documentation and procedures related to cardiac monitoring; Monitor and record physiological measurements including obtaining six second strip as indicted by patient condition/physician order; Responsible for identification of patient arrhythmias, abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reporting on the condition of patient to the RN/provider or appropriate supervisor; Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge; Performs configuration as necessary; Care and maintenance of cardiac equipment.

Documents and interprets patient#s heart rhythm and rate by utilizing telemetry recordings; Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from the central monitoring unit; Maintains log books; Documents in the EMR Receive, screen and coordinate telephone calls from patients, families and healthcare providers; Answers telephones and communicate clearly when receiving information from units or providers; Uses clear, complete and timely communication with the unit team when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm. Orients and mentors new team members; Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both the central monitoring unit and clinical areas; Troubleshoots monitors with nursing team and contacts Bio-med as appropriate; Are required to give report to oncoming shift. Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations; Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work in a stressful environment; Maintains and stocks all designated equipment/supplies, including telemetry monitors; Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Bio-med.

Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical team as well as responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers; Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors. EDUCATION/LICENSE/#CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS Minimum requirement: High School diploma or GED Successful completion of clinical education/dysrhythmia classroom and on-the-job training program that is provided upon starting position with our training program and exam prior to completion of orientation.

Maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Preferred qualifications: Experience as a monitor technician and demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms Completion of a formal training program in allied health or a healthcare field such as medical assisting, EMT, or similar field WORKING ENVIRONMENT Constantly works near moving mechanical parts Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.# Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting). Frequently required to walk and move about.

Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment. Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices. Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.

Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds. Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.# Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
