JOB SUMMARY: The Monitor tech functions as a cardiac monitor observer and central station manager. They are responsible for informing nurses and appropriate members of the healthcare team important physiological and cardiac changes in patient condition.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Associate must be able to work 12 hour shifts to qualify for the position.

  • Demonstrates computer and keyboarding skills necessary to provide a complete and accurate electronic medical record, working knowledge of medical terminology, ability to prioritize work utilizing organizational skills and ability to communicate and comprehend the English language.

  • Functions in a flexible, organized, and professional manner under stressful or emergency conditions.

  • Utilizes effective verbal, non-verbal and written forms of communication.

  • Works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to teamwork and Patients First.

  • Interactions with patients, families and visitors adhere to the basic principles of guest relations and are adjusted for the age and developmental level of the individual.

  • Appropriately responds to all monitor alarms.

  • Recognizes basic arrhythmias and changes in patient condition and can manage patient admission, discharge, transfer and change of equipment through the central cardiac monitoring station.

  • Reports any abnormal alarms or significant rhythm changes to the RN.

  • Runs rhythm strips, mounts and interprets (rhythm, heart rate, interval measurement) on paper.

  • Responsible for identification of patient arrhythmias, abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reporting on the condition of patient to the appropriate members of the healthcare team in a timely manner.

  • Applies good guest relation techniques to telephone conversations.

  • Communicates pertinent patient information clearly, accurately, concisely and in a timely manner to designed persons.

  • Directs concerns to appropriate persons within timeframes suitable to the situation.

  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly use the telephone system to place callers on hold, transfer calls, etc.

  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly manage the central monitoring system.

  • Ability to manage the Practice is consistent with safety principles, OSHA guidelines and infection control guidelines.

  • Observes equipment for malfunction and takes appropriate action.

  • Honors individuals' right to privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality at all times.

  • Confronts individuals/situations assertively and non-aggressively when necessary to ensure the rights of patients, self and others are respected.

  • Readily offers assistance to families, visitors, patients/residents and colleagues.

  • Conducts investigations with patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, other associates and the public in a manner consistent with the intent of the hospital's mission, vision and values.
