Location: Philadelphia, Pa 19103

Responsibilities:
Designing, modeling, developing and supporting Database Management Systems (DBMS).
Analyzing data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s), and then designing, developing, amending, optimizing, and certifying database schema design to meet system(s) requirements.
Gathering, analyzing, and normalizing relevant information related to/from business processes, functions, and operations to evaluate data credibility and determine relevance and meaning.
Developing the database and warehousing designs across multiple platforms and computing environments.
Developing an overall data architecture that supports the information needs of the business in a flexible, but secure environment.

Requirements:
5+ years of MongoDB database experience in a Linux environment
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
At least 10 years of IT work experience in DBA, DBMS design and support and relevant computing environments.
Experience with physical collection creation, access pattern tuning, sharding implementation, index creation, and debugging query execution to obtain optimum database performance
Excellent understanding of various MongoDB database design patterns and physical architectures for different use cases
Experienced in MongoDB Security

Skills:
Data replication and sharding in a distributed database
Aggregation of data using MapReduce and other batch processing use cases
Detecting performance problems using Mongo Profiler
MongoDB - CRUD Operations, Document based Data Modeling, Design of Collections and Documents
Automate routine tasks with your own scripts and open-source tools
Defragmentation
Schema Design working with Application/Development team

Ability to work in a fast growing, high expectation environment
Solid organizational and prioritizing skills
Capable of working with limited supervision

Become a part of our team and work collaboratively with world-renowned researchers who endeavor to answer questions about the human brain, the highest reaches of the atmosphere, ocean biogeochemistry, the impact of social programs, and more. Help us keep all of our research clusters running smoothly for our users. Build clusters on campus and in Amazon AWS with cutting-edge technology. Serve as a systems administrator on highly complex physical and cloud linux systems. This position will also assist with our enterprise email, database, application, and web servers. The selected candidate will design, quote, purchase, deploy, and maintain high performance computing solutions using physical and cloud systems including Amazon's AWS. The candidate will work directly with researchers to understand how HPC can enable and reshape their work. The candidate will also zealously pursue fast and collaborative solutions to tickets/requests, partnering with both faculty and local computing support providers throughout the school. The systems that our group manages often represent investments of more than $100k of grant funding for very high-profile projects. We are at a critical tipping point in computing architecture. In many cases, cloud-based infrastructure is cheaper, easier to maintain, more reliable, and more scalable than physical hardware. This position will put you on the SAS team that develops and builds out our tools for deploying and managing cloud-based service and research clusters. Work related tasks include: performing linux systems programming projects as needed; providing software installation and backups; coordinating hardware repairs; coordinating ordering & installation of equipment; recommending and tracking software & hardware; installing upgrades; performing technical consulting & end user linux support; supporting web and other infrastructure services; and responding to and assisting first-tier support staff who assist end-users with our systems.
