JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision of the microbiology senior technologist the molecular technologist will perform daily testing of PCR platforms. Testing encompassed includes infectious diseases both wide-spread and emergent. The molecular technologist will perform nucleic acid extractions, amplifications, and operate thermocyclers of differing makeup. They will be able to utilize the technology to provide results and interpretations to the clinical team. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.# Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.# PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to Procedures. Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls. Operate RT-PCR on multiple types of platforms, evaluating quality controls and patient results. Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver high quality care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Assist with processing of specimens as needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior. DEPARTMENTAL AND ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs. Other duties as assigned JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION Bachelor#s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science required. EXPERIENCE Minimum 3 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required. Previous RT-PCR experience is required. Previous experience with Thermofisher Quant Studio equipment is preferred. ASCP or AMT certification is preferred. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS Able to travel independently throughout all Memorial Healthcare facilities. Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare (MHC). Ability to work independently and within a team environment ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare. Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is required. ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws. ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates, manuals. Able to hear for work-related purposes. High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
