Job Description: SummaryThis position will report to and work hand in hand with the Tool Room/Mold Repair Coordinator and is responsible for supporting the mold repair/ molding operation. This individual will develop and implement improved methods of molding, procedures, tooling and processes that result in improved efficiencies, yields, mold operations, and quality.

Also provide technical support to molding operations and support trouble-shooting with existing molds or continuous improvement efforts. Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

  • Provides technical support to the Mold Builders, Process Engineers, and Mold Makers for the implementation of new molds, designs, tooling and products.

  • Supports the designs and provides input in the fabrication of injection molds. Provides engineering support to the site molding operations to achieve production volumes at the highest quality, safety and lowest cost.

  • Applies engineering principles and practices specifically related to the design, fabrication and operation of injection molds,

  • Cost estimating, quote approvals, vendor relations, R&D research, tooling design and changes, mold improvements.

  • Application of Scientific and Engineering principles to drive improvements in tooling, production, processing and continuous improvement projects.

  • Teams with Mold Repair on tooling improvements and repair practices that will continually improve production efficiency.

  • Lead tooling improvement projects through the use of Moldtrax, SAP, Blitz's and Engineering support.

Job Description

  • Highly engaged in troubleshooting issues in the mold shop, production floor, and mold vendors.

  • Engaged in developing and promoting Mold makers in shop through new technologies and education.

  • Supports and gives thorough input on Mold Makers reviews through IIG's using best practice metrics including 1st. pc. Cavity utilization, component expenses etc.

  • Understand and supports mold shop budgets, including expenses, overtime.

  • Tooling support new design concepts. Specify equipment, tooling and fixtures for new processes, or existing process changes.

  • Lead tooling improvement projects/cost reduction

  • Support design reviews, mold tryouts, vendor management.

  • Drive new technology improvements.

  • Process Systematic Molding.

  • Support Engineering in Validation

  • Support mold FAT/process development.

  • Must have the ability to speak, read and write English.

  • Indirectly supervises all resources assigned to project teams.

  • Ensure compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Lead Projects as assigned.

  • Represents BD when talking with suppliers. Defines BD agenda, carries out negotiations and is the technical voice for the company

  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education and Experience:

Education

Required: Associates degree Machine Tool and Design.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Experience

Three to five years experience in the mold tooling and mold process environment.

Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read, write and converse in English. RESPONSIBILITIES * Establish a robust process window by applying Scientific / Decoupled Molding techniques along with design of experiments (DOEs). * Establish a relationship between key process input variables (KPIVs) and key process output variables (KPOVs) for each component. * Specify the equipment required in the molding cell for an application to include molding press, robot, EOAT, hot runner controller, water temperature controller, material loader, weigh blender, dryers, inspection equipment, etc. * Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs) at the mold vendor. * Lead complex projects and maintain project timeline and budget. * Develop a business case for to improve the quality and reduce the cost of molded components. * Read and maintain a working knowledge of Quality Procedures and Work Instructions * Provides technical process support to the organization and mentor molding technicians. * Interface with the Manufacturing Manager on a daily basis to determine production needs related to process and other technical issues. * Manage sampling program. * Establish documentation requirements for all processes including but not limited to: Process sheets and database for set-up information, special notes and to maintain required history. * Create and administer training programs for Process and Mold Setup Technicians as well as existing staff on new equipment. * Maintain knowledge of production schedule and ensure technical issues are acknowledged and addressed to support schedule. * Act as technical lead responsible for new mold sampling, DOE's, material samples, engineering changes, etc. * Establish injection Molding and robotic process for all new jobs * Establish acceptable process variation allowances and associated process window. * Act as technical lead on reduction projects for scrap through controlled planning with Manufacturing Manager. * Lead automation projects and continuous improvement activities. * Mentor and develop other process engineers. * Provide technical guidance for mold and hot runner design. * Other duties as assigned. DELIVERABLES * Coordinate and control all cost, delivery and quality objectives for the design, construction and validation of assigned injection molding projects. * Establish a robust process window for all injection molded components using Scientific Molding techniques along with Design for Experiments (DOE's). * Ensure molding cell is sized properly for the application.
