You could be the Moderate Hazard Facility Operations Technologist we are seeking to provide guidance on test setup and ensure facility readiness through planning and executing maintenance of the test facilities. This role requires extensive outdoor work in potentially extreme conditions, including high temperatures, inclement weather, and working on the ground with a commitment to operational safety, security and quality.

On any given day, you may participate in:

  • Guide or collaborate with a team of Technologists to execute tasks

  • Plan activities to meet customer and facility requirements

  • Promote constant process and facility improvement by identifying opportunities, proposing solutions and then executing

Maintaining outdoor test facilities including welding, fabricating, general labor, dirt work, infrastructure wiring, fiber optics, and temperature conditioning equipment

  • Completing test specific builds with printed or general instruction

  • Helping diagnose problems, repair electrical/mechanical equipment, and provide technical support for research and development activities

  • Coordinating with engineers, technologists and contractors on facility and equipment repairs, installation, troubleshooting, logistics, and documentation

  • Independently pursuing solutions to technical problems with general oversight

  • Supporting temperature conditioning equipment including test planning, design, field operation and troubleshooting

  • You may need to travel quarterly, including weekends, to support program needs

Qualifications We Require

  • You have a high school diploma

  • Your background includes three or more years' experience in general technical roles

  • You bring experience with schematics, drawings, layouts, and/or similar specifications

  • You have experience operating heavy equipment (i.e. Loader, Skid Steer, Excavator, Forklift, Telehandler, etc .)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

  • Associate degree in relevant Mechanical concentration areas

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and guide multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience producing technical manuals and guides

  • Experience with design, installation, testing, repair and maintenance of electrical/mechanical systems

  • Experience with R&D design and fabrication

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or CREO

  • Demonstrated experience working to Operating Procedures, ES&H and Engineered Safety requirements

  • Experience with construction-like activities

  • Ability to work safely, independently and with minimum supervision

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as time management, conflict resolution and critical problem-solving skills.

  • A desire to improve current skillsets and learn new skillsets

About Our Team

The Experimental Operations Department 1533 provides an array of capabilities and services for Sandia's Validation and Qualification Sciences Experimental Complex (VQSEC) which enables it to accomplish its mission as the center of excellence for environmental testing within the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration Nuclear Weapons Complex. These full life cycle capabilities include engineering design and fabrication of test hardware and fixtures; structural and thermal analysis supporting experimental design; hazard and system safety analysis; execution of tests and experiments in controlled mechanical, energetic, and thermal environments, including set up and dismantlement; and operation and maintenance of one-of-a-kind facilities including the Aerial Cable Facility, Burn Site, Rocket Sled Track Complex, and Thermal Test Complex. Department personnel collaborate with test directors, test and safety engineers, and instrumentation, photometric, and data acquisition personnel to ensure the infrastructure and facilities necessary to conduct subsystem and system level tests and experiments in normal and abnormal environments are available. Additionally, the department provides mission assurance in the form of risk assessments and failure mode analysis; design engineering processes support; leadership in the integration of standard business practices across the VQSEC; administration of the ES&H program for the Engineering Sciences Center (1500); management of the VQSEC test support contractors and training program; and configuration management of VQSEC moderate hazard facilities.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. DUTIES / ACTIVITIES: CUSTOMER SERVICE: * Responsible for driving the FMS culture through values and customer service standards. * Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers. * Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication. * Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner. Collaborates with staff and Clinical Coordinator/Charge RN or Nurse Supervisor and Medical Director to set annual goals for staff. * Manages the department staffing through the appropriate hiring, firing and disciplinary actions. * Maintains written documentation of all disciplinary meetings in accordance with the established personnel policies, and confers with Human Resources and Director of Operations regarding the nature of the disciplinary decisions. * Ensures execution of new hire orientation and training, and ICD-9 code training when applicable for new hires, and works with Medical Director to ensure mandatory in-services are completed. * Ensures appropriate documentation is completed for current licensure, annual in-service and policy and procedure in-service updates. * Responsible for ensuring all facility employees receive appropriate trainings according to company policy including company risk management initiatives. * Provides training and guidance to facility staff members to ensure development of clinical competences providing opportunities for professional growth and encouraging personal growth. * Collaborates with HR regarding providing information to staff pertaining to FMS/FMCNA benefits, Human Resources policies and procedures. * Participates in Corporate and Division specific employee recognition and satisfaction programs. * Maintains a close working relationship with Division and Corporate office personnel and ensures appropriate communication of FMS, Division, and Corporate initiatives, policies and procedures to facility staff. * Utilizes knowledge of FMCNA and FMS services and products to contribute to the growth of the business. * Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety. * Schedules the maintenance and repair of equipment, operating systems and physical structure of the facility, as needed. * Monitors security of the facility. * Coordinates inventory/supply management by reviewing monthly inventory count and approving purchase orders for necessary items to ensure cost containment, timely distribution and competitive pricing. * Responsible for efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals following all guidelines established in the FMS/FMS formularies. * Contributes to the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facility and the pertinent updating and maintenance of the related manuals. * Directs any necessary information gathering, as required, to support billing, billing issues and collection activities. * Coordinates and approves facility payroll. * Responsible for participating in all on-site internal and external (state and federal) surveys. * Reviews new and existing provider contracts for various vendor services, including but not limited to, insurance, laboratory, and facility cleaning. * Other duties as assigned.
