The Department of Biology - Akamatsu Lab has an outstanding opportunity for a Modeling Specialist (job profile: Research Technologist 1).

Position Purpose:

Work on the biology research team as a Biophysical Modeler. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and applying computational models to study the biophysical processes underlying cellular dynamics and behavior. This role involves close collaboration with experimental researchers to integrate experimental data with computational modeling approaches, thereby providing insights into the intricate mechanisms governing cellular processes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement computational models to simulate and analyze various biophysical processes at the cellular level, such as membrane dynamics, protein interactions, signaling pathways, and organelle behavior.

  • Collaborate with experimental researchers to incorporate experimental data into the modeling framework, enabling the integration of theoretical and empirical approaches.

  • Design and conduct in silico experiments using the developed models to test hypotheses, make predictions, and identify critical parameters influencing cellular processes.

  • Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of simulation results, providing insights into the underlying mechanisms and facilitating a deeper understanding of cellular phenomena.

  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary research meetings, present findings, and contribute to the formulation of new research directions and hypotheses.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of biophysical modeling, computational biology, and related areas, and incorporate new techniques and approaches into the research pipeline.

  • Assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations, effectively communicating research findings to the broader scientific community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Two years experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Skills required: C++ and python programming; working knowledge of mechanics and cell/molecular biology.
