You could be the R&D Electrical Engineer for our Component & Systems Analysis department to develop, exercise and analyze high-fidelity electrical devices, circuits and system models in extreme environments.

We address a range of challenging technical issues associated with assuring performance goals across nuclear weapons programs. Regular responsibilities include: developing device and circuit models, conducting simulations on Sandia's high performance computing clusters, working with code developers to improve the in-house circuit and device simulation capabilities, validating results against specifications and test results, and reporting to customers. If selected, you will work on several projects simultaneously while in a teaming and collaborative environment.

Opportunities exist to work with either circuit and device effects analysts, in-house code developers, or to pursue research/development/application of innovative modeling and analysis techniques such as machine learning.

You may also work on projects that consist of the following:

  • Conducting simulations on large multi-node, UNIX based computational platforms for the characterization of circuit performance and the determination of circuit sensitivities and uncertainty quantifications

  • Developing and simulating analog, digital, or mixed mode circuit models

  • Developing and validating high fidelity environmentally aware device models

  • Teaming with experienced test engineers to guide and provide insight to experiments and results

  • Working closely with systems engineers, designers, and testers to create models and analyze, validate, and report result

Qualifications We Require

  • You possess a minimum of a master's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.

  • You have knowledge, by way of training and/or experience, of analog circuit simulation and/or design

  • You have knowledge, by way of training and/or experience, of the physics and construction of semiconductor devices

  • You have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering or relevant discipline

  • Knowledge of radiation effects on semiconductor devices

  • Experience in circuit and/or device design

  • Experience with circuit simulation software (e.g. SPICE, PSpice, Xyce, HSPICE)

  • Experience in VHDL/Verilog and other HDL languages

  • Experience using UNIX operating systems and/or High-Performance Computing clusters

  • Experience in the application of statistics to simulation results and analysis

  • Experience in verification and validation of simulations

  • Proficiency in a high-level programming language (e.g. C/C++, Matlab, Python)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience with teaming for results

Department 1356 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other (WFO) programs. Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
