SmartThings has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mobile Senior Software Engineer on Android. You will be working with a world class team of engineers who are passionate about what they do and will expect no less from you. Having an insatiable hunger for learning new technologies and improving existing ones is an absolute must. If it is a good mutual fit, you will pay attention to details and take great pride in your work. By creating and designing mobile applications and SDKs for the Android phone, tablet, and other mobile platforms, you will help make the SmartThings mobile apps even better, whether it is implementing new features, improving performance or making sure that the user interface is top-notch.

We pride ourselves in not only using all the modern Android technologies that make us more productive (Kotlin, Rx, etc...) but we also expect our engineers to keep themselves informed on where the new trends, tools and techniques are going.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to collaborate with other Android and mobile engineers to build simple and scalable solutions.

  • Help influence, driving architecture definitions and implementation.

  • Work closely with a cross-functional team to deliver new features, bug fixes and enhancements to a production Android application and SDKs.

  • Participate in peer code reviews and scrums.

  • Follow through on scoped tasks, writing clean code, and following best practices.

  • Enhance supporting documentation and tools.

  • Proactively identify areas for improvement/strategy within team area, and clearly communicate action plans across teams.

  • Mentor other engineers and lead technical on boarding.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in developing native Android Applications.

  • Android development experience, with deep knowledge of best practices, APIs and libraries.

  • Strong understanding of application architecture and object-oriented design.

  • Experience working with MVP design pattern in Android.

  • Experience with Dagger or other dependency injection frameworks.

  • A passion for continuous learning and understanding.

  • Ability to operate in fast-paced, deadline driven, collaborative and iterative programming environment.

  • Ability to work within established infrastructure and quickly become familiar with it.

Desired Skills:

  • Kotlin.

  • Familiarity with other statically typed languages a plus.

  • Building, maintaining and deploying SDKs, libraries and tools for many big teams.

  • Functional reactive programming with RxJava.

  • Published a mobile app to its respective App Store end to end.

  • Familiarity or experience with Internet of Things apps or devices.

  • Eager to learn and share your learning with your peers.
