Summary

About the position:

This position will be assigned to the Auto Hobby Shop on Eielson AFB, AK.

Frequent bending, reaching, and working in awkward positions when performing work in lube pits or from car racks. Occasional heavy lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

This position is flexible and may require a schedule to include working Wednesday

  • Sunday between 6:00 a.m.

  • 11:00 p.m. Work hours are subject to change in order to meet the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

Drains and changes lubricants in crank cases, differentials and transmissions, lubricates vehicles and replaces oil and air filters, checks fluid levels in braking systems and power steering reservoirs. Replaces accessories such as rear view mirrors, rotates, replaces and/or repairs tube and tubeless tires with a plugger or hot or cold patch.

Changes brake pads and rotors, checks components such as spark plugs, wires, rotors, fan belts, tail pipes, mufflers, hoses and similar items and makes adjustments or replaces these items. Refers any observed needs for major repairs to the automotive mechanic. Uses a limited variety of test equipment (e.g., battery cell test, battery hydrometer). Uses a variety of hand tools. Maintains records and inventory of supplies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

Must have experience servicing vehicles (i.e., lubricate, oil and filter change). Must be able to read and understand manual specifications and be able to verbally communicate with patrons. Successful completion of technical/vocational school training in an automotive servicing course in which applicant gained a basic knowledge of automotive servicing may be substituted for the required experience. May be required to obtain certification from the state to perform vehicle safety inspections.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

VIEW JOBS 8/2/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-10-31T00:00 MUST LIVE WITHIN 15 MILES OF TARGET CITY Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 1st shift (start at 7am, 8am, or 9am) This is a Part-Time position POSITION PURPOSE The Field Service Professional (FSP) maintains a variety of light industrial equipment found in retail locations and manufacturing facilities, such as paint shakers, carpet carousels, checkout stands, blind cutting machines, shopping carts, and lifts. FSPs generally provide maintenance and repairs in various locations within a 1.5-hour radius of their home. The hours for this position are based on customers' maintenance needs and will vary. MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES * Be available and accessible by phone and tablet daily as required * Maintain, troubleshoot and service light industrial equipment both mechanically and electrically * Troubleshoot, adapt, and resolve/repair all issues to keep equipment functioning properly * Test each system after service/repair is complete to ensure the system is functioning properly * Perform proper inspection of customer system to prevent future issues * Explain each service and repair performed to customers * Use sound judgment to deal with and eliminate safety related issues * Provide detailed and clear service reports, turning them in daily * Read mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematics as required * Use tablet applications for word processing, modify Excel spreadsheets, inventory control and reporting NATURE AND SCOPE This position reports to the Regional Services Equipment Manager This position has no direct reports. ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Environment: Working conditions may include working indoors and outdoors in cold, hot and damp areas. Travel: Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Additional Minimum Qualifications: * Valid driver's license for the state in which you live and work. Good driving record * Versatile equipment maintenance repair skill set * Ability to adhere to OSHA regulations including, but not limited to fall protection, lock-out tag-out procedures * 1-3+ years wrench-in-hand experience (Experience limited to only computer/IT repair and installation is not generally a fit for this role) * Must be able to read mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematics as required * Must reside within 15-20 miles of the target city * Must have standard tools used in the craft, and be proficient in handheld technology (tablets / laptops / smartphones) * Be a self-starter, driving customer satisfaction with a passion for equipment maintenance Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a High School Diploma, GED, Technical or Trade School or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job Years of Relevant Work Experience: 3 years Physical Requirements: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
