JOB RELATIONSHIPS Responsible to the Lab Director and the Pathologist. Functions under the direction of the Microbiology Section Supervisor#and Shift Coordinators. DEFINITION OF POSITION The micro#technologist performs all laboratory procedures (testing, quality control, instrument maintenance) in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Assists as needed and assigned with phlebotomy. Assists as needed and assigned with training of new employees and students. QUALIFICATIONS Professional Education: graduate of an accredited clinical laboratory program. MT or equivalent
BS degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. MLT or equivalent
Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Current registry with ASCP preferred or a minimum of 4 years of clinical laboratory experience in an accredited facility. Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level. Personal Maintains good health, grooming, and professional conduct. Possesses a sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty. Possesses the steadiness to think clearly and to act effectively in emergencies. Deals perceptively and understandingly with patients, physicians, visitors, and other staff. Recognizes the importance of all services of the hospital and the need for interdepartmental cooperation. Physical To perform specimen collection, laboratory tests and procedures demonstrating a working and theoretical knowledge. To follow quality control programs To maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment To utilize hospital and laboratory information systems; perform accurate data entry and documentation. To demonstrate good communication skills. To demonstrate teamwork initiatives. To function as Supervisor#s designee. Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), biohazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals. Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress. Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite health risk through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals and body fluids. Mandatory use of PPE, e.g. lab coats, jackets, and gloves made of various materials, which may be potential allergens. Frequent standing, stooping, sitting, and walking required. Regular use of keyboard required. Medium work of lifting up to 30 pound and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
