Position Details
Title: MLS\MLIS Internship-Summer Semester
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week at various branch locations
Schedule: Can be flexible, but may include day, evening, or weekend hours
Compensation: Unpaid

A successful candidate will…
Be a student enrolled in college/university curriculum, in a Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program.
Hold a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of the internship.
Have reliable transportation.
Have some weekend and evening availability.
Have some customer service experience.
Have basic computer and internet skills and ability to teach at an intermediate level.
Have a desire and enthusiasm to learn.
Multilingual a plus
What does the job look like?
Provide in-depth research and recommendation of resources and materials to patrons.
Provide instruction and technical assistance to patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and other equipment (computer and mobile devices), including general internet help. Assist with printing.
Develop/deliver services and programs for the community served.
Promote library use and services through displays, presentations, and participation in the community.
Assist patrons with performing online job searches, writing resumes and cover letters.
Assist patrons with locating online legal forms, tax documents, and government websites, for immigration, unemployment, and SNAP.
Assist in collection and analysis of data on library use, services, trends, and community resources.
Process circulation and/or collection reports.
Create lists, provide reader's advisory, and post comments in Bibliocommons.
Provide a variety of clerical and/or technical tasks in support of assigned function, including checking in and out material in a timely manner, processing holds and reserves, assisting patrons with library card applications and accepting payment for library fines and services.
