Job Summary

The Manager in Training acts as an Assistant Manager while taking the necessary courses and hands-on experience to successfully move to a keyed, store management position. They effectively direct sales by coaching and motivating employees to achieve personal and store sales goals. They also ensure compliance is met for all company operations, policies and procedures. The Manager in Training controls store shrink by practicing and preventing loss.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Applies and coaches others on 4-Step selling techniques

  • Achieves personal sales goals of Black Dot/Gold Star Performance

  • Achieves 2.0 IPC

  • Follows loss prevention procedures and controls shrink and expenses

  • Cleans and maintains good housekeeping

  • Adheres to company dress code policy

  • Delegates daily operational duties

  • Assists in conducting training and recruiting

  • Enforces and follows all company policies, procedures, guidelines and programs

  • Ensures work environment is safe and clean at all times

  • Maintains company visual standards

  • Protects company assets


  • Minimum 1 year retail management experience or 6 months working for Windsor at store-level

  • Proven leadership experience, ability to develop and motivate a team of up to 25 employees

  • Able to resolve issues as they arise with customers and associates

  • Communicates well and effectively in a one-on-one setting and in a group setting

Physical/Environmental Demands:

Frequently stands, walks, observes, communicates and reads. Regularly moves and pushes. Counts and writes to accurately complete documentation. Must be able to: access all areas of the store including sales floor, stock area and register area, operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store, climb ladders, move or handle merchandise throughout the store (generally weighing from 0-25 pounds) and work varied hours/days to oversee store operations. Environment is fast-paced and indoor temperature conditions vary.

Monitor and oversee the overall compliance process for facilities, generally within an assigned area. Facilitate local training of driver training programs, safety procedures and policies to reduce accidents, prevent loss and establish safe working conditions. Implement programs for training and continued education of existing employees. Perform location audits, establish action plans for improved compliance and develop follow up methods to ensure continuous improvement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Collaborate with area leadership to support safety and compliance efforts in assigned territory/area * Support area leadership and location managers in developing improvement plans to eliminate accidents and injuries * Promote and develop safe work practices. Assist locations in reducing injuries and vehicle accidents by gaining compliance to and enforcing compliance to policies and procedures. * Assist in accident investigations and preventable accident follow-up. * Perform all necessary audits for assigned facilities * Monitor compliance to operational procedures for each location by participating in operations audits or employee task observations * Coordinate and conduct location training as required or requested from local or area managers. * Assists in conducting audits of drivers, vehicles and maintenance facilities. * Assist in creating training packages as required (i.e. videos, power point). * Monitor new policies and procedures and verify facility compliance * Work directly with location and area managers to develop and enforce location specific work safety rules * Work closely with facilities in assigned area to understand and verify compliance to internal and external requirements. Work with appropriate regional/division/corporate resources to ensure facilities have appropriate support. * Willingness to travel 50-65%. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: * Medical registrations * Tier 2 reporting * AERO Team participation * Bachelor's Degree in related field is required; related experience in the range of 5 years is required in lieu of education. * Advanced certification is preferred (ASP/CSP) * Industry and related product knowledge as well as experience handling compressed gases preferred. * Intermediate proficiency of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. * Working knowledge of Safety and OSHA regulations preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Working knowledge of FDA, DHS, PSM/RMP, EPA and DOT beneficial and preferred * Demonstrate a collaborative approach and ability to influence across disciplines, departments and with associates at all levels. * Ability to demonstrate a clear and effective speaking manner for the purpose of interpreting and explaining related information and/or policies to employees. * Ability to demonstrate a clear and concise writing style for the purpose of preparing documents for internal and external distribution. * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
