The Boeing Company is looking for a Mission Autonomy Chief Engineer to join the Phantom Works Autonomy team located in Berkeley, MO or Mesa, AZ location(s). This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.
The Boeing Company is building a team that will focus on developing software for "mission autonomy," which is defined as the services needed for an autonomous air vehicle to execute the mission in theater. In this role, the Chief Engineer will have the responsibilities to lead the architecture of overall mission autonomy system, including multiple software skills/services, infrastructure software, and the associated models-based systems engineering efforts to build autonomy solutions that meet the needs of our customers and warfighters. The optimal candidate works well with a team, has great communication skills, is a self-starter, and is excited to lead the development of autonomous systems.
As the Mission Autonomy Chief Engineer, you will:
Oversee the technical direction of the engineering teams and coordinate closely with the Mission Autonomy Chief Architect
Coordinate with lab teams and facilities to stand up the Boeing Autonomy Systems Integration Lab (BASIL).
Interfacing with customers and other vendors to deliver the autonomy solutions according to schedule
Drive towards optimized software development pipelines and automated testing at all levels (unit, integration, and system) enabling continuous deployment of mission autonomy solutions from the Boeing Software Factory and establish autonomy software product lines by practicing good Product-Line Engineering principals.
Additional Position Responsibilities:
Leads activities to develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system
Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier/partner management activities
Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics
Leads software research and development projects
Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations
Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier/partner performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards.
Trains and mentors others
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could potentially change in the future.
This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. Ability to obtain Secret US Security clearance (Post-Start).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
10+ years of experience mission system software development or integration for military aircraft
Experience with autonomy algorithms related to vehicle path planning, decision making, world modeling, and optimization
Experience with autonomous software development, integration, and testing for military aircraft
Experience with military domain communication protocols such as Link16, DIS, HLA, and STANAG 4586
Experience developing and documenting software architecture using Cameo, or similar Model Based Systems Engineering tools
Candidate should have strong computing skills, excellent written and speech communication skills, be customer-oriented, positive, flexible, and a strong team player
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in software engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Travel:
Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 25%.
Relocation:
This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $151,300.00 - $204,700.00
