Installs and maintains machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation, operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

  • Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.

  • Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.

  • Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using cranes, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Constructs foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement, and steel.

  • Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.

  • Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to a foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.

  • May operate engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.

  • May use transit and level for equipment setting.

  • Loads transport, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

  • Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.

  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.

  • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.

  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

  • Perform a variety of duties, which may change often.

  • Operate machinery, such as welding equipment, cutting torches, misc. power and hand tools.

  • Work at heights without fear.

  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

  • Performs routine maintenance and housekeeping in the elevator. Records maintenance and housekeeping are performed in the appropriate logbooks.

  • Solid understanding of confined space entry policy and procedures, as well as, lockout - tag-out policy and procedures.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

No Computer skills are needed.

Certificates and Licenses:

May be required to maintain a current weighing license and grain grading certificate. Welding certificates are preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear.

Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
